imported_steven Posted November 22, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 22, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good Morning, I have been looking at different forums and reading countless reviews on the Leica V-Lux 1 and the Nikon D80. I have read of statements about a lot of noise with the V-Lux and that it is made by Panasonic, can anyone advise me please? Will the V-Lux 1 take memory cards larger than 512 mgb's? Thank You steven

egibaud Posted November 22, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 22, 2006 I have read of statements about a lot of noise with the V-Lux and that it is made by Panasonic, can anyone advise me please? Will the V-Lux 1 take memory cards larger than 512 mgb's? steven I have the Panasonic FZ30 which has been replaced by the FZ50 sister camera of the V-lux1. Regarding noise if you take picture at 100 ISO and use a tripod when necessary nothing to worry about. V-Lux is using a new engine (Venus 3) that is supposed to make less noise so pictures are likely to be less noisy than the FZ30. Regarding card. I use Sandisk Extreme III of 1Gb but I think the Vlux handles 2Gb and the new Hi capacity ones, anyone it will take 1Gb for sure. Last thing V-lux / FZ30 and FZ50 have a minimum angle of 36mm lense so if you are looking at a wider angle you will be stuck unless you buy a very very expensive wideangle adapter. The Nikon is likely to give you more flexibility lense wise but the VLux is the best solution if you want quality picture without carrying several lenses (it goes from 36 to 420mm and actually more if you drop resoltion to 3Megapixel instead of 10, they call it extra zoom). Both product are really different and hard to compare, D80 would be better compared to a Canon 400D or a Digilux 3 or a Panasonic L1. Hope it helps.
