Ordered a Black M9 yesterday - the excitement had me going through bins of old stuff.

Has anyone posted pics shot with LTR glass like early Elmar or my fav. - Summitar 50mm f2.0?

This is my 1st post here - thanks to all of you so much for all the great info.

Have been a Leica guy since I traded a Nikon F for a IIIf 38 yrs ago. Before digi was using M6 0.85 to emulate the beloved M3.

The Canon 5D M2 is a great camera but has never been out of the studio due to bulk.

Loking forward to getting back on the street with comparable capabilities.

I purchased a 50 mm 1.5 screw mount lens over on eBay and put it on my M8 (along with an IR filter I got from a German camera firm over the internet). It works great. You have to buy a screw mount adapter for this lens which you can get from cameraquest.com, Steve Gandy.

I can tell you that a 1939 vintage 50/2 Summitar makes great pix on the M8 as does a 1950's 35/3.5 Summaron. Both of those lenses "draw" wonderfully. I'm looking forward to see these on the full-frame M9. I'll post post pictures when I get my M9 (who knows when that will be)...

Likewise I'm looking forward to trying my older lenses on the M9 - I have the 50mm/1.5 mentioned above, an old Canon 50mm/1.2 and the 85mm/1.5 in Leica screw mount.

On my M8 the 50mm Summarit is very soft on fine details at max aperture and at f/2, but sharpens up amazingly from f/2.8- almost like it's a different lens; the 85mm Summarex I reckon is slightly superior to my 90mm f/4 Macro-Elmar at the same aperture. Pretty good considering it's getting on for 60 years old! The Canon, which was never one of their best, is inferior at f/5.6 to my 50mm Summilux-Asph wide open. Not perhaps surprising, but the gulf is wider than I thought it would be.

I also have an 8-element 35mm Summicron (1963) which is wonderful on the M8.

How much fun are we in for?! Not to speak of the hunt for interesting old pieces to resurrect, try out in B&W mode with filters and so on.

Thanks for the encouraging replies!

PS: For B&W printing I really recc. Piezography.
