jackal Posted September 26, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 26, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) does anyone have the older ultron ? i sold my 28 cron to fund my M9 (big mistake, i should have sold the 24mm elmarit) I am finding that at F2 the Ultron has a lot of non image forming light so you get a sort of an impression of fog around the in focus area... also, it never becomes biting sharp like the Leica summicron so the images don't pop nearly as much. In fact from tests so far it looks like the Summicron at F2 matches or even beats the Ultron F/2.8. Now none of this matters much as I can sharpen things up in post. But I was just wondering if other peoples ultrons are similar. regards R
Advertisement Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Hi jackal, Take a look here Ultron F/1.9. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Jamie Roberts Posted September 26, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 26, 2009 I had the older f1.9 Ultron, and it was "softish" / low contrast too, but still sharpened up nicely. It took a fall out of my camera bag and now the focus ring is shot. Don't know even where to get it repaired! But a very nice lens nonetheless (no 28 cron wide open, though). Have you tried phoning the agents - Robert White? (01202 723046)
Jamie Roberts Posted September 27, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 27, 2009 Have you tried phoning the agents - Robert White? (01202 723046) Hmm. No, since I bought the lens in the US I'm assuming that would be my first step...
wattsy Posted September 27, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 27, 2009 i sold my 28 cron to fund my M9 (big mistake, i should have sold the 24mm elmarit) Yes, very big mistake. I'm not sure it's a good idea to sell any top rank Leica lens. In my experience, I usually end up buying them again at a newly inflated price. FWIW I think mint 28 'crons will start popping up for sale more regularly as more people buy the M9 (in the same way that 35 'crons were two a penny when there was a rush to buy the M8).
