i was just thinking... if i have a m8 and a m9 bodies at the same time, i effectively have doubled my usual lens set...

my 12/15/28/35/75/135 on the m9 will be a 15/21/35/50/100/180 on the m8, so that is a set consisting of:

12/15/21/28/35/50/75/100/135/180!!!

or have i had one too many?

i know i can crop (which i don't like to do), but still...

yes i have to consider the filters, but if i put some thought in it, i can minimise the swapping...

yes but i would loose the 21, 50, 100 and 180.

the 75 is much easier to focus than the 135 and i don't have a 90.

and i already have a m8.

I think you missed his point.

The M9 has 18MP. You can crop out the extra 8MP and end up with the exact same image you would get from the M8 for each focal length lens. Making the M9 work as 2 different cameras with different crop factors, Lens sets.

If I was to buy a M9 I would certainly sell my last M8. I had to think about that for a while because I don't find the M8 crop factor a problem and I like the longer reach of the telephoto lenses, 75/90/135. But when you consider the extra 8MP of the M9 over the M8 and then you crop them out you end up with the same image you would get from the M8.

Yes Ed I thought the OP missed my point, and the interesting thing is that if you are happy with the 10Mp from the M8 then you will be happy with 10Mp cropped from the M9 and those 10Mp dont have to be in the centre.

If you like to make relatively large prints as I do then it is important with the M8 to compose as well as you can, the M9 will give you a lot more leeway and offer more 'pictures within a picture' at M8 quality.

i guess you two are right... i'll go out and buy more glass to double it then... or fill my glass more... to see it double.

I tend to see it the other way - with 3 weeks of experience using the M8 I really don't want to have to go back to using a 50 as a 60 something + having a body that's not comfortable to use for a FOV greater than around 32mm. It's not that the M8's not a great camera - it is, and if it was the only game in town I'd be happily still using mine. The problem for me is that the M9 is so much more satisfying to work with -- mainly because I have framelines from 28 to 135 and my Zeiss 18 / Leica 21 lenses are suddenly such a joy to use as true wides. Add this to the extra resolution + improved ISO and I'm afraid my priority is going to be to sell my much loved M8u for a second M9 body ...

I'm therefore cheerfully planning to REDUCE my lens inventory...
