ampguy Posted September 24, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have an original M8, with none of the issues such as high iso lines, green strokes, or shutter issues (so far, ~5K actuations). Does anyone know what the ranges are for M8's that needed replaced shutters or sensors? I don't need any of the upgrades, am fine with the glass, shutter sound, and framelines, but the idea of having it "checked out" for an addl. year warranty is tempting. Does anyone know the US price for a "check up" of a fine working M8?
Advertisement Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Hi ampguy, Take a look here M8 serial number ranges and US "checkup" fee. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
View From Space Posted September 26, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 26, 2009 I'd be curious to know this too. I'm in the same boat. Cheers
hoppyman Posted September 26, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 26, 2009 I don't think that Leica offers any 'checkups' that add an additional year's guarantee on the entire camera without the upgrade package. Now that the upgrades are discounted you may like to re-evaluate what is offered for your own circumstance. Other wise, maybe best to ask Leica for an estimate for a CLA for your camera and what the warranty details are on that. Normal practice would be to guarantee any repaired components. I went to Leica's (US) website to look this up and could not find any information about discounted upgrades. In fact, their whole upgrade page appears to be missing (I get a "page not found" error). Where did you see this?

Here's the link Leica Camera AG - Service - M8 Upgrade You might need to check with Leica USA. This is pretty new, perhaps the US web site is not updated yet? Solms does say that the upgrades are available from their other service centres.
kalina Posted September 28, 2009 Share #6 Posted September 28, 2009 Are the prices really discounted? I remember them being the same as when they were listed after the special promotion back in April/May.
hoppyman Posted September 28, 2009 Share #7 Posted September 28, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Are the prices really discounted? I remember them being the same as when they were listed after the special promotion back in April/May. Hi Kalina. I don't have the old price list here any longer. The price for the upgrades had increased since they were first offered and I'm not sure which prices that you are referring to. Keep in mind I am talking about Solms, not Leica USA. Promotions and prices differ from place to place too. However here is a practical example for you. In June Solms upgraded my frame lines and shutter in one business day. Customer Service very kindly waived the express fees as I was visiting from overseas for the Forum get together (and then they checked and adjusted two lenses for me for free as well). Anyway the standard charge in June was 1,500 Euros for those two upgrades together. (I think it was 2,100 Euro or similar for all three) So shutter and framelines total in June was 1,500 Euros Since 14 September the price is now 1,000 Euros. Those prices are ex Solms and inclusive of VAT.
