St Clair Posted September 24, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've just got back from a trip to Singapore where I used a couple of my M8's extensively, I was changing lens often etc and have noticed that one of the bodies when mounting a lens is not very tight anymore compared to the other body. (Kind of sounds dirty when I read that back!) So, basically that body won't read the lens coding (which it did previously) unless I apply a little pressure on the lens. Has anyone run into this problem or heard about it before? Any idea on what the servicing will be like?
Advertisement Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Hi St Clair, Take a look here Problem with my M8 having stopped reading lens coding. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Shootist Posted September 24, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 24, 2009 Do you mean inward pressure on the lens? IE pushing it into the body? It must be real loose then. I'd try cleaning the code reading sensor on the camera and clean the mount on the lens.
dNorm Posted September 24, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 24, 2009 If the mount is too loose, then light is likely seeping in and not allowing the sensor to read the codes properly. Try going into a dark room or closet and taking a test shot, then see if the lens info shows up in the EXIF. Cheers. -Norm I've just got back from a trip to Singapore where I used a couple of my M8's extensively, I was changing lens often etc and have noticed that one of the bodies when mounting a lens is not very tight anymore compared to the other body. St Clair Posted September 24, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted September 24, 2009 Tried cleaning the sensor, it's reading some lenses now but not my 28mm elmarit which my other M8 body reads with no problem. Very strange...

I'm guessing the because the lens mount in a little loose that light is getting in there as you said. I guess it could also possibly be that the lens code reader is stuffed. I'll take it into Leica this weekend and see what they say.

Very strange... Have you cleaned the 28/2.8's code stripes? Have you photographed the bad M8's IR diodes with an IR-sensitive camera to see if they are all illuminating? St Clair Posted September 25, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted September 25, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) My other M8 reads the codes perfectly so cleaning the code does nothing. I think you could be right about the diodes, maybe they aren't working. Anyway I'll find out from Leica on Sunday and report back. Thanks.
