rknewcomb Posted September 23, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 23, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is the Capture One software especially tailored for use with the M8.2? In other words, is there something about the sensor or software of this camera that requires the use of Capture one to get the most out of the camera? I'm not talking personal preference here because everyone might have their own likes or dislikes. I'm use to Adobe because I use it everyday at work, I just didn't know if the M8.2 really works best with the Capture One. thanks for your help. chris_livsey Posted September 23, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 23, 2009 I don't think "specially tailored" is correct. Many photographers with varying cameras report on the superiority of C1 so the effect is not limited to Leica M8.2. They are manufacturers of the Phase One medium format backs and perhaps their in depth knowledge of digital from the ground up has given them an edge ? If you don't know, as you say, there is a 30 day free trial download of C1 so you can try the software back to back and not use your free activation. Be your own judge. it may be your workflow and familiarity with Adobe may produce the better end result for you as all software has a learning curve. Nothing lost in trying. rknewcomb Posted September 23, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted September 23, 2009 See http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-post-processing-forum/93526-capture-one-vs-lightroom.html I went and read the information on this link - lots of information and good experience from many people. Thank you! What I had not know was if Leica had worked with Phase One to work out some of the challenges is making a digital M camera, regarding the light fall off towards the corners and color shift problems. Apparently those concerns were addressed in the camera itself and not so much in the processing software. I very much appreciate the help and information! chris_livsey Posted September 23, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 23, 2009 They did collaborate hence the offering of the C1 with the M8/.2 on purchase rather than in-house software such as Ni*** or Ca*** provide. The quality of C1 though seems to show with cameras not with such a close link as well. In fact I suspect the S2 will show up well with C1 processing even though Leica has moved away from Phase commercially, we shall see. Well others will the S2 is going to be out of my price comfort zone.
