ZoomP Posted September 23, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 23, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Folks, Noticed a slight scratch on the viewfinder bluish coating. Initially thought it was dirty, but after cleaning it with water the scratch remains. I thought this is supposed to be scratch resistent coating. Did anyone else have scratched vf coating on your MP? If so, how do you take care of it? Thanks.

wizard Posted October 2, 2009 Share #2 Posted October 2, 2009 I thought this is supposed to be scratch resistent coating. No optical coating is scratch resistant. Modern coatings are more resistant than optical glass (which is relatively soft compared to regular glass, as in windows), but rub any small grain of sand on such a coating and you will ruin, read scratch the coating in no time. No problem really if it is just the viewfinder window, you won't notice it on looking through the viewfinder. Much worse if it happens to be the front element of your favourite lens.
