Hello, I bought SCNOO rapid winder for Leica III (it is silver color) in almost mint condition. But I have a problem with it. It has 134mm inner "diameter" but my original normal baseplate has 132mm. Please, can someone explain me why it is not compatible? For which body it is designed? What shall I get? How can I recognize the difference between various types of SCNOO? My body is Leica IIIa S/N 302993 (1938). Is there someone who has right one for me? May I have a chance to change mine for correct one for IIIa? Which seller shall I ask? Thanks for answers and thoughts.

Josef, I don't have an answer for you, but suggest you contact Tom Abrahamsson about modifying it. He makes these things and may be able to change something so it will fit.

I guess your rapid winder is for later models.

From the IIIc (introduced 1940) on Leitz used injection-moulded instead of machined bodies which where 2 mm longer than the previous ones...

You will have to buy either another body or another rapid winder (maybe Tom Abrahamssons one which will be not only up to 60 years younger but also more easily serviceable - if you want to use it and not simply collect it).

Josef,

Tom Abrahamsson will not be able to help, since he only makes Rapidwinders for the M bodies. As Michael correctly mentioned above, your SCNOO was made for Leica IIIc and newer. The original SCNOO was produced for the shorter bodies, up to Leica IIIb.

I would be pretty well impossible to modify the longer SCNOO to fit the shorter body as it would require shortening it by 2mm.

The SCNOO winders are rarer than Leica IIIc or IIIf bodies; it would make more sense to try looking for another body to fit the winder, rather that modifying the old one or trying to find the shorter, original version.

All the best,

Jan
