rick_dykstra Posted October 3, 2009 Share #63 Posted October 3, 2009 I'm fascinated by the background noise in the assembly line video. The loud hammering. I reckon it's the final inspection guy adjusting the focus on the one that Jaap got. john_newell Posted October 3, 2009 Share #64 Posted October 3, 2009 I thought that the beginning section was interesting, too. I wasn't sure how to interpret the guide's comment about how much assembly was done out-house before the assemblies arrived at Leica. Specifically, it appeared that the vast majority of the assembly work might be performed before the camera ever got to Leica, and that Leica was simply doing final assembly, calibration and testing? rick_dykstra Posted October 3, 2009 Share #65 Posted October 3, 2009 It looks like the slotting and snapping together of assemblies is done in Portugal (with sub components being sourced from all over I expect) and then the fiddly, time consuming jobs like sensor installation, shimming and calibration and soldering of circuits is being done in Germany. Hence made in Germany. BTW, the best R8 I've had (of many and still have) has made in Portugal printed on the back.
