Guest V64 Posted September 12, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 12, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Whilst I have no intention and/or cash to move to an M9, nor have I (so far) wanted/needed to pay for any of the M8 upgrades (frames/shutter/glass/ etc), it occurs to me that the M8 upgrade program could be dropped by Leica at any time. My (unanswerable) question is - will the cost of an upgrade be recouped in the resale value of the M8u over the M8? Does anyone care to venture/speculate an opinion? Thanks David
Advertisement Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 Hi Guest V64, Take a look here M8 Upgrades. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
terence fairweather Posted September 12, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 12, 2009 I have a M8.2. Although if I were in the market for a M8 I would certainly be prepared to pay extra for the updraded version! M8u. In my opinion the saphire glass etc! Lovely! chris_livsey Posted September 12, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 12, 2009 Not unanswerable at all as I am pondering an M9 and have been offered, as a trade in, a price slightly over half way between an M8 and an M8.2 for my M8u (all three upgrades). That does not recoup the cost, nor should it as it is S/H although still in upgrade warranty.
Rolo Posted September 12, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 12, 2009 My (unanswerable) question is - will the cost of an upgrade be recouped in the resale value of the M8u over the M8? Does anyone care to venture/speculate an opinion? Simple answer is no. You'll get more for each feature you add, but never recoup the cost, IMO. Count on recouping half the cost and you won't be far out. I bought a new M8 in June 2009 and stand to lose 1/3rd of the last retail selling price in px against an M9, leaving a £3,300 gap ...... marknorton Posted September 12, 2009 Share #6 Posted September 12, 2009 I don't think anyone should upgrade their M8s now unless they are quite certain they will be keeping the upgraded camera for a while. The upgrades are definitely useful and transform the camera but you won't ever get your money back on resale.
