jrethorst Posted September 12, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 12, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) The red dot looks very nice on the Mac screen, as the icon for a folder full of photos. But when I format an SD card, the icon is erased. Has anyone found a way to make the icon persist?
Advertisement Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 Hi jrethorst, Take a look here Thorsten's Leica icons for Mac -- how to make them last?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
poklade Posted September 12, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 12, 2009 Do not format the SD card in your camera. Just empty it using the computer. While the card is still in your card reader, double click on the card icon, throw the 100LEICA folder from DCIM to trash, empty the trash and than eject the card. It is faster and saves the energy of your battery. The icon will persist. My site: http://www.ivanlozica.com

My site: Foto Lozica - Photo Lozica - I'm certainly not a specialist, but the consensus, I believe, is to only format in camera to prevent card corruption. Perhaps, someone more knowledgeable than I wants to chime in.

This is supposed to be best practice to avoid problems.
poklade Posted September 17, 2009 Share #6 Posted September 17, 2009 I am a Mac user and have been emptying CF and SD cards on my computer(s) since 2000 on daily basis. Never had a problem with that! Of course, if you have to FORMAT a card - not just EMPTY it - then your camera is the right and only place to do it.
