mlrx Posted September 10, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 10, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a Leica M8 1st Gen that I bought in 2007 (March). Why the final image does not fit my frame in the viewfinder? My frame is still narrower than what I get. Is this normal? Help me, please.

Nicoleica Posted September 10, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 10, 2009 Hi, Can you expand a little on your problem please? What lens are you using, and are you using the correct frame-line set for the lens?
mlrx Posted September 10, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted September 10, 2009 Hi Nicoleica, I use a summicron 50 mm 2005 version. Thanks for help :-) I suppose to use the correct frame-line bc its automatic I think.
adli Posted September 10, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 10, 2009 This is normal, the frames should cover what you get at approximately 0,7 meters. At longer distances, you will get more than the frame shows.
Nicoleica Posted September 10, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 10, 2009 Hi, With this lens, you should be using the outer set of frame-lines as in the below picture. You may get a slight amount of extra image in the final result depending upon the distance. (The M8 frame-lines are most accurate at short distances.) But it should be pretty accurate. I hope this helps. If not, please can you post an example describing the problem in more detail?
mlrx Posted September 10, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted September 10, 2009 I have to study my Leica's reactions with distances. I will post results. many thanks :-)
ho_co Posted September 10, 2009 Share #7 Posted September 10, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) ml-- The M8's finder frames were set to include everything that one would get on the sensor at closest focus distance. As one focuses away from closest distance, the effective lens coverage widens. That way, the camera will always give you at a minimum what you see in the finder frames. I'm not sure, but I think that may be what you're describing. If your file includes more than what you expected, the camera is working as designed. Since the frames can only be exact for one distance, Leica's viewpoint was that you're better off getting more than you expected than less. There was a tremendous amount of discussion on the matter here, as you can see if you try the forum's search function. See particularly Carsten Whimster's posts at http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/31212-frameline-accuracy-comparison.html.
