GLC Posted September 10, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 10, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) can someone give me the word to describe the magenta and green blotting that goes on while using high iso? personally im fine with the noise but its the colour blotting/blobbing that is going on that i find disturbing, well not disturbing lets say sad. i know alls sick of the m9 - d3 high speed comparison but this is where nikon and canon have got it. no blotting on both companies highend cameras, only on there low end like the 5d. thanks
Advertisement Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Hi GLC, Take a look here noise grain, noise colour. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dpattinson Posted September 10, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 10, 2009 It's called colour noise, you can pretty much remove it in C1 during RAW conversion (for the M8) by using the colour noise reduction slider. I usually don't do this because it tends to clobber fine detail. I blend it out in CS4 later on using Selective Colour layers.

I checked my new M9 today at high iso settings - similar chroma noise as initially with the M8 (not quite as bad, from what I remember). They pretty much fixed this in later firmware updates for the M8, and I'm sure they will fix this for the M9, as well. So don't worry too much.
