Jean Cristophe Posted September 10, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 10, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) 21 and 24 elmarit have a slight but evident problem rendering with the M9 .... Sorry I don't have the "proof" I just tested this at my photo-shop, and didn't think to bring home the images. 35 and upward are a dream though.... Advertisement Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Hi Jean Cristophe, Take a look here Corner Sharpnes M9. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Double Negative Posted September 10, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 10, 2009 I've been looking at the corners in a lot of photos posted and some do appear to be soft. I noticed this yesterday already - and hoping it was just me - or the photos. The Tri-Elmar seems particularly soft in the corners (not too surprising I guess) but also a 2/50 Summicron... manolo Posted September 10, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 10, 2009 so IF this is true: I wonder if the IR filter in the sensor can be taken off and just use IR filters on the lenses? (or not; for B&W & IR pictures )
Jamie Roberts Posted September 10, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 10, 2009 so IF this is true: I wonder if the IR filter in the sensor can be taken off and just use IR filters on the lenses? (or not; for B&W & IR pictures ) Hey, it won't be the IR filter causing weaknesses in corner sharpness. It's going to be the lens (a habitual issue with wide angles. I bet Leica's still suffer from this wide open but wayyy less than anyone elses. Still, don't expect 50 Lux ASPH performance from a 21mm ) Or it's going to be the microlenses on the sensor, which you don't want to remove Or a combination of both. But I strongly suspect it's number one. Welcome to a full-frame world If you don't like this, get an M8 or 8.2 while you can. You're using the lens's sweet spot in the center, where all Leicas are (very) sharp.
Jean Cristophe Posted September 10, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted September 10, 2009 What I mean to say that is is soft .... but not disturbingly so, you have to look for/at it, nevertheless the softness is there. I must also say that I'm not a wide-angle shooter anyway. I prefer 35mm. I was fully set to buy one actually, other than the fact that they weren't in stock anymore I decided to wait for the next couple of firmware releases. and see what they will bring. I also want to check out the X1. Other than being able to use my lenses at actual focal lengths I couldN#t spot to many difference between my M8.2 and the M9 other than an obvious increase in higher asa use. It is noisy but the detail at 2500 is very ... well detailed and even when the noise is worked out it will rendite better than FF dslr' in my opinion, at this asa setting anyway. other than that, great achievement by such a small company, and the grey/silver... more a gunmetal grey in the tone of the ollder Jaguar motor cars is beautiful. manolo Posted September 10, 2009 Share #6 Posted September 10, 2009 so James, in your opinion: would a 19 R be sharper in the corners than a 18 M ?
