Oh no ... oh no not again ... I've got that 'must buy another Noctilux' feeling again ...

That's a very nice set of shots with the M9 that exhibit exactly the character of the Nocti on FF. I really didn't like mine on the M8 but these shots are leading me back on the Nocti acquisition path.

Btw, I agree with Jaap - that's one of the best Leica M & cat shots I've seen for a long time too.

What are these little white spots in the large version of the image? Sensor noise?

How come the highlights are blown this extreme at only 2/3 seconds exposure at f/4.8?

If I am talking about the same withe spots you observed, they are various kind of lighting lamps in the park of various sizes some were partly hidden by leaves shaked by the wind and perhaps some of these lamps were hanging and shaking for the same reason. Steady llamps were fine.

Regards.

the crop factor.

p.s: i think a lot of us elder photographers had the same dream

I'm a lot older than you and have been shooting a lot of film since the early 1950's, but I've been shooting quite a few different formats over the years: 35mm, FF, Minox, 645, 6x6, 6x7, 6x9, 6x12, 6x...(whatever my Roundshot produces), 4x5 and 8x10. The upshot is that 'standard' and 'favourite' focal lengths depended on many things, but nothing was inexorably tied to a specific format.

I'll get an M9 at some point, mostly to make the best use of the 21 Summilux, but on the whole the M8's do an excellent job for me.
