Julian Thompson Posted September 9, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Will Apple Aperture work with the M9 or (as I suspect!) will I be stuck? I really don't want to work outside one package and it's taken forever to organise things into Aperture!
Advertisement Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Hi Julian Thompson, Take a look here Can I use Aperture with M9?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Double Negative Posted September 9, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 9, 2009 Yes. Aperture, ACR (via LR or PS) are okay - C1 YMMV.
swamiji Posted September 9, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 9, 2009 But it will chew a large chunk out of ones hardrive... I expect that the 4tb I am using now... will be used up in no time...
Julian Thompson Posted September 9, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted September 9, 2009 Excellent news - thanks. I think the key to the HDD problem is to pretend it's film in there and for gods sake turn off that exposure bracketing otherwise you'll need a server farm within a month :-E I need Leica to make a LOW capacity battery to make sure I'm selective ;-)
BRJR Posted August 28, 2010 Share #5 Posted August 28, 2010 But it will chew a large chunk out of ones hardrive... I expect that the 4tb I am using now... will be used up in no time... I have 3 Drobo Drive systems, with plenty of storage. Use one Drobo drive storage with my Apple MacBook computer; and, use two Drobo Drive systems with my iMac computer. I know, Drobo is supposed to be safe --- but, still, one of the Drobo units used with my iMac computer is for backup of the other Drobo, just in case. BRJR Posted August 28, 2010 Share #6 Posted August 28, 2010 Will Apple Aperture work with the M9 or (as I suspect!) will I be stuck? I really don't want to work outside one package and it's taken forever to organise things into Aperture! Yes, and it works quite well, IMO. In fact, as a diehard Mac user, when Aperture 3 came out, I stopped using Adobe Lightroom and actually removed it from my iMac & MacBook computers, as I prefer Aperture. Still have Adobe Photoshop; but, as I seldom have a need for it --- will likely soon remove it from my Mac computers as well. Obviously, I never had need or interest in the free download of Lightroom authorized by Leica/Adobe, when I purchased my Leica M8.2 and subsequently my Leica M9. newtoleica Posted August 28, 2010 Share #7 Posted August 28, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Another thumbs up for aperture 3 and the M9. I've used aperture since v 1 and my goodness how it's improved! With ap3 and the nik plugin suite I need nothing else.
mgreernz Posted August 29, 2010 Share #8 Posted August 29, 2010 I'm another reasonably contented Aperture 3 user. Although v3 was bug ridden when first released, the subsequent releases of updates have dealt to most if not all of those. It has an excellent user friendly library structure and in v3 has well developed editing tools, particularly for RAW. Like others, I'm turning to PS (CS5) less and less, finding that I can do almost everything I want within A3 and the two "must have" plugins: Nik Full Collection and HS FixLens. My main grizzle would be that a lens correction module is urgently overdue in A3. The new version of LR has an excellent lens correction module built in and one might hope that Aperture 3 will include one in the very near future. In the meantime HS FixLens provides comprehensive (and excellent) correction to lens aberrations and perspective problems (but it's a 3rd party plugin and not cheap). gonzaloro Posted September 1, 2010 Share #9 Posted September 1, 2010 Does the f stop show in the exif metadata when you use aperture 3? It does not show in my case. I know this was a problem with aperture, but has it been solved ?
winmore Posted September 1, 2010 Share #10 Posted September 1, 2010 +1 for Aperture 3 plus Nik plug-in suite. Rarely go to Photoshop CS5 anymore. Cheers Ron

I know this was a problem with aperture, but has it been solved ? ?? the M9 doesn't know about the f stop you use. It only saves the max. f-stop of a lens in the exif file if it is coded or you use manual selection.
thighslapper Posted September 3, 2010 Share #12 Posted September 3, 2010 Aperture 3 is great but you need a reasonable amount of memory (or using brushes and some of the other complex stuff stalls) and switch off time machine (if you run it) whilst using it as the two seem to compete for resources ... well thats the main trouble I've had anyway.... otherwise I too have junked photoshop, lightroom, nikon capture and hardly use any of my Nik plug ins. The Aperture rendering of DNG is particularly pleasing with nice rich images on an iMac
