Gees, Seal said that he's spent "Hundreds of thousands of dollars" on camera equipment - most of it Leica. He gets an S2 with lens free! I guess that's the reward for sending all that money to Solms. All the rest of us poor b____tards that have pinched every penny to afford the gear get....

I came away very impressed. Three very ground-breaking products - even if we knew about them beforehand the impact was still there.

I missed when he said about availability of the M9! Can someone recap when they will be available?

...not that I'll be able to buy one for some time, but nevertheless...

He said that they were shipping them right now.

Hi

I never believed I would see a full frame M within 3 years given the way how the M8 started out (warts and all). I sat out on the M8 in the end, but it seems my money is still destined for Solms in the end!

Even the X1 looks exciting and would make a great companion to the M9!

What has Leica done?

They've made a full-frame, no-IR-filter required, low-light capable digital M, which was physically impossible 3 years ago when the M8 was shipped.

That alone is pretty incredible.

But they've also shipped the S2 and have the X1 in the product mix, so they've come out of a very confusing time for them and into a clear product line-up. Personally, I still wish there was an S2-light or R10, but that's not to be for now, anyway.

Real congratulations should go to Leica and to Kodak, who obviously worked together on the microlens technology necessary to make this happen.

I have to say even the usually uninspiring dPreview shots--with beta firmware--are pretty impressive; I didn't see much evidence of vignetting.

Agree. Amazing.

The impact of the M9 and its timeliness are unquestions, congratulations to those involved in the development.

The X1 is really a home run as far as I am concerned. Many people, including me, have turned to companies like Sigma for a fixed lens high quality camera. It will be so nice to be able to choose Leica once again in this segment, a segment that Leica has been involved in during its history (Minilux, CM).

Great day, lots of fun to see Leica spread their wings once again.

I wish Leica the very best success with the 3 cameras. I will be upgrading my M8.2 to M9. It looks like a really great camera.

I think it is good to see the X1 also as this will attract new people to the brand and build new loyalties.

I'm also surprised and delighted to see that Phil Askey of dpreview bought an M8 after reviewing it some years ago and now a strong Leica fan. They even changed the dpreview website logo to a Leica style red dot for today which is quite a tribute. I have never seen them do anything like that before!

Phil must be as impressed as we are...

Michael Reichmann is excited as well:

The Luminous Landscape

He promises several articles, and video interviews. One of them with Peter Karbe... I cannot wait to see it !!!!!

I agree that this is a fantastic achievement....kudos to the Leica team.

On some late posts here yesterday, there were hints from a few (some of those sometimes irritating winky faces) that there would be additional news, even beyond this already incredible speculation of 3 wonderful cameras. I didn't hear anything beyond the speculation (did I miss it?), and wish that I hadn't even read the late posts. It would have been better to ignore the late posts yesterday and just been thrilled to hear the news fresh, without any additionally wild expectations.

That said, job well done...assuming no significant performance glitches.

Hi,

I had the new M9 in my hands already and had a chance to play with it. There is a menu to choose the lens by hand - good news :-). At least it was in the beta firmware, but I guess it will stay.

Nice unit - I ordered one immediately. ;)

Best regards

KH
