geesbert Posted September 4, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 4, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I really love the way Leica is handling the eminent launch of their new cameras. they promise nothing, but everybody expects so much.
Advertisement Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Hi geesbert, Take a look here The Agony.....it's brilliant. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

andybarton Posted September 4, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 4, 2009 This is the best new product launch by Leica I can remember. There's all this chatter here and on many other photography forums. Every dealer in the world has had a red-hot phone for weeks and they seem to have some surprises left for Wednesday. Someone in marketing has done a proper job on this, IMHO, along the lines of a Steve Jobs presentation at a Macworld. Get the rumour mill going full pelt, then give the punters what they want. The next day. "This MacBook Tablet will be in your shops from tomorrow morning" kind of thing... Roll on Wednesday.
biglouis Posted September 4, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 4, 2009 It is working brilliantly... although I find some of the brouhaha in the forum a bit disturbing, actually. Its a camera for chrissake... not a cure for cancer. LouisB
andybarton Posted September 4, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 4, 2009 If they could deliver that on Wednesday, I'd have the €5500 in Dr Kauffman's hands before you could say "M9".
treeplanter Posted September 4, 2009 Share #6 Posted September 4, 2009 Yep, Leica's done a masterful job of building excitement. What I find amusing are the people who are now criticizing a camera (the expected M9) that is still rumor and not fact. Nobody has seen one, much less hold one in their hands, and yet they are already pointing out what they don't like about the M9. I just don't get it. Jim B. Philippe D. Posted September 4, 2009 Share #7 Posted September 4, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) If they could deliver that on Wednesday... This is, IMO, the big suspense, I'm very curious to see what's happen. In this case (M9 already available), it would be a great step for Leica Camera AG and all his staff. It should be so, otherwise...
andybarton Posted September 4, 2009 Share #8 Posted September 4, 2009 Jim There will be plenty of people who will have seen and used one (some on this forum, no doubt), but Leica's NDA is going to be draconian on this launch. It seems to be working. The thought that Leica will be selling these shortly after launch next week without people testing them... There are a lot of dealers who are saying nothing, or claiming not to know anything more than they can read on this forum, and others. That just isn't credible, to my way of thinking. Jim B. ...and the elephant in the room is how many people could actually afford to purchase a €5500 product in the first place... wattsy Posted September 4, 2009 Share #13 Posted September 4, 2009 ...and the elephant in the room is how many people could actually afford to purchase a €5500 product in the first place I think the "elephant in the room" is whether the M9 is going to be any good. It wasn't long ago that most 'experts' insisted that a full frame M would be breaking the laws of physics and that the external IR filters were necessary to retain "Leica sharpness". I'm as enthusiastic about the prospect of the M9 as the next man (I've never been keen on the 1.33x crop and have always hated the IR filters*) but I do wonder what compromises have had to be made to bring the M9 to market. *Unlike many/most here who have always stated the filters to be a non-issue (until now that is). Andy, I want to wish you and your family well. I could write more, but I'll limit my comments to: I've been on a similar trip with my wife, and I can't begin to express my empathy for you. Peter. blakley Posted September 4, 2009 Share #15 Posted September 4, 2009 (I've never been keen on the 1.33x crop and have always hated the IR filters*) but I do wonder what compromises have had to be made to bring the M9 to market. *Unlike many/most here who have always stated the filters to be a non-issue (until now that is). The filters have been ALMOST a non-issue for me in terms of image quality - I very occasionally get a reflection of a light source, but that's about it. The cost of buying them is a pain but not excruciating, and the annoyance of taking them off for color work with a film M is also a pain but only really because of my laziness. Being able to work without filters will be a plus mostly because of the increased ease of using lenses like the Summitar and the CV 15/4.5 LTM and 50/3.5 Heliar - for which it's hard to get or attach appropriate filters. Full-frame would be "nice", but the real plus for me will be better high-ISO performance if we get it.
oronet commander Posted September 4, 2009 Share #16 Posted September 4, 2009 The launch will be brilliant indeed... if they finally deliver on 9/9/9. Should they not, there's a great risk to cause disappointment, regret, chagrin... together with stealing the S2 launch rightful protagonism for nothing.
