ho_co Posted September 4, 2009 Share #41 Posted September 4, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) ... I also downloaded the extensive Excel sheet from Nikonians that people use just to keep track of all the choices, most of which are there to support other choices -- a true self-licking ice cream cone. ... lj, best description I've seen of the current "state of the art" in digitalia! Bravo! Self-licking ice cream cones. Perfect! Thanks! ps--now that's "dissipation"

thrid Posted September 4, 2009 Share #42 Posted September 4, 2009 Clarification: Fuji uses an oddball rgbg non-Bayer pattern that allows two-pixel binning with their EXR sensor: NEWS! - Fujifilm announces Super CCD EXR sensor so they can bin to half-resolution instead of a quarter. This is what I was thinking of. The EXR technology only cuts res to half. I got to play around with the EXR200 and I was really impressed by the technology... In particular I liked the idea of being able to give resolution or DR preference. Very well thought out.
thrid Posted September 4, 2009 Share #43 Posted September 4, 2009 I'm not smart enough or a good enough technician to use a top-line Canon or Nikon -- it was the retrograde simplicity of the M that drove me from SLRs to a M to begin with. Now that we have the prospect of a full-frame digital M with 18 megapixels, I'll be more than satisfied. Oddly enough I always thought you had to know more about photography to shoot an M body than some computer driven plastic wundercamera... You may be smarter about photography, than you think. ;-)
swamiji Posted September 4, 2009 Share #44 Posted September 4, 2009 An M is an M. It's not a goat, nor a phone, nor a toaster. If you want one these then buy one, but an M is an M. Always has been, always will be. Have a read of any of Leica's advertising since the M3 for some clues about what the M9 will have and more importantly why. I had the opportunity to pickup just about every LFI, in english. (1932-1939, 1948-current). It's true there is a consistent philosophy about Leica M series cameras. Still true for the M8, and appears still to be followed for the M9 (if rumors are true). None of this silly gadgetry, a straight forward approach. It's what attracted me to Leica to begin with, why I retired my other cameras.
offshore Posted September 4, 2009 Share #45 Posted September 4, 2009 I find this is a depressing thread. A full frame 18mp Leica M being described as mundane. Sorry, I find it anything but and can't wait for the 9th Yes but stuns didn't you just know it was coming. After the ninth gird your loins for the whining and bitching about the screen or why this button wasn't placed over there, or how come it isn't 25 MP? We'll have to start a whole new forum for the creative marketeers here who will endlessly tell Leica how they should have done it. I think its great that Leica is coming out with something new after almost three years and hope they keep their word that the M8 will continue to be upgradeable as I plan on keeping mine until it can't be fixed anymore. stunsworth Posted September 4, 2009 Share #46 Posted September 4, 2009 Yes but stuns didn't you just know it was coming Yes, I predicated it quite a while ago. It's just that I thought it would occur _after_ the camera was released.

rfleica Posted September 4, 2009 Share #48 Posted September 4, 2009 I can live now with ir filters. I have grown used to the crop too. FF per se is nice. But the real plus for me will be something with the superb feel of the m8 ccd files combined with cleaner high iso and more resolution (still without aa filter). No other changes needed. An M is an M: nice and simple.

jamriman Posted September 5, 2009 Share #50 Posted September 5, 2009 Simple for me. I'm an M traditionalist, even thought I think the M5 was a masterpiece. It simply was ahead of it's time. Changing the M design into a Japanese bells and wistles camera would end my love for the M camera. The M9 is my dream camera if it's not a buggy mess. I just hope it's priced to be competative in todays market so I could afford one.
