holmes Posted August 28, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 28, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Over the past several months, I have managed to pickup some nice pieces of Leica equipment. Ranging from R bodies, to four very nice lenses. I found a motor winder in excellent condition. Throw in a couple of different focusing screens and I've been able to put together a rather nice "R" system to compliment my "M" system. No matter what Leica does or doesn't do, if you like shooting Ilford or Tri-X or color chromes, it's there if you want it. So from my perspective, Leica and digital are moot. They are trying to play catch up with the big boys over in Japan and will not even get to first base, digital wise. For those in the USA, when was the last time you saw a TV ad for Leica digital or film for that matter. Canon is the corporate sponsor for a great weekly National Geographic show on PBS. And that's not 'chump' change. When did you see a photo layout spread in a major, or minor magazine for Leica. You see plenty for Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Olympus, Sony, Panasonic. I'm talking USA. So if you are in a panic to dump your 'R' equipment, give me first choice.

kenneth Posted August 29, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 29, 2009 A Leica R dumping ground. Well that is novel. Remember you can only take one picture at a time with one camera. OK I have 2 camera bodies so as I can carry different asa rated B&W film but the whole ethos, particularly with Leica M cameras, it there compactness and understated discreetness, unmatched build quality and the best optic available which is why they have been and are camera of choice of a great many of the most iconic photographers in the world. Not because they advertise on Television

Unfortunately, quantity says just about nothing on quality. Leica has been way beyond digital "first base" for years (and with the S2 will be way beyond Canon, if they weren't already with the DMR)
