Summarit 50 f1.5 dof ring marks - What is R?

My apologies if this seems a silly question but its my first and I am unclear as to the letter R marked on the depth of field ring of the Summarit 50mm f1.5 as shown below; any advise how to use/read it would be good!

It gives the corrected distance for infrared photography. You focus as usual, get e.g. 10m on the arrow, then You turn the scale until the 10m matches with the R. You then got the right focus for the different wavelenght of infrared film.

 

Or as shown above, You have focused on infinity for visible light. If You want to expose a infrared film, turn the infinity mark to R

Thank you very much Oliver ... my first inkling was that it related to using IR film but no idea how to read it! Your explanation makes it clear. :)
