does it matter for the M8?

I think I may have read somewhere here that the thicker one makes it hard to put lens hoods on- is that true?

Thick or thin applies only to the mount, right? The glass is the same either way?

There is also a "Pro" version, which is chrome.....

Sorry, I just saw that there was another thread on this already....but I still wonder at the answers,

The other thread just said to use the "F-Pro", but not why....

and is vignetting even an issue on the M8, with the 1.33 multiplier taking away the edges anyway?

Steve:

I just got a 486 filter in the mail yesterday. It says f-pro on the filter ring. It is a 62mm that I will use with a stepping ring on my Noctilux.

The 55mm filters are the ones that used to be problematic with the 21mm and 24mm ASPH hoods. I just tried a regular B+W 55mm filter and a f-pro version on my 24mm ASPH and either fit inside the hood, the f-pro being a bit tighter.

When shooting B+W film with either the 24mm or 21mm ASPH, I don't remember the filters causing vignetting. These were just regular red and yellow filters.

With the filters it is more important that they fit inside the hood, rather than thin or regular. The filters that interfere with the hood are too large in diameter, not a thickness problem. B+W filters have never been a problem with any of the Leica lenses and hoods.
