How good a monitor is 'good enough'

Downloaded a demo of the NEC Spectraview profiling software. Installs and works fine with the Spyder 3 pro.

I honestly can't see much difference between the calibration afforded by the NEC software and that from the software bundled with the Spyder. However I'm willing to believe that the ability to write to the monitor hardware LUT is going to make some difference.

I will purchase the NEC software and see if their tech support can give specific advice on calibrating the NEC2690.

Now that I've been working with the monitor for a while - it no longer seems overly large. I can certainly see that a 30" monitor would be handy for post-proc.

Update: It appears that the Spectraview software can be used on Multisync monitors in the UK, however it will not do Hardware calibration as this feature is only enabled when a Spectraview monitor is attached. Reading between the lines it looks like this is effectively using the monitor as a hardware dongle to enable the functionality, rather than an intrinsic difference between the capability of the monitors (both have the hardware LUT, but it's only addressable in the Spectraview model). It appears from some stuff I read online that this is not the case in the US, hardware profiling is available to all Multisync monitors - but I found it hard to determine if that was actually the case.
