We now know with no small amount of certainty that an M9 will come. Despite much speculation, we don't really know much about the specs. What we do know, however, is that most of us will want one at some point. Some (few) will want to stay away from digital altogether, so that's not really an issue for them. Quite a bit more will wait for the first batch to be out of the door in order to assess the reviews, the feedback, and allow possible bugs (child illnesses) to be smoothed out. Many will want one right away. I'm not like that. No no. I promise. Hmmm. Me want...ME WANT... ...must...not...give...in... ...must...save...marriage.... What I'm getting to is this: whether you rich or not so rich, Leica cameras aren't really cheap. And being a substantial investment, many of our partners in life will probably react in exactly the same way. In a sense, it's heart-warming to know that, whatever, color, creed, nationality, location, size of your...lens, there's a very high chance they will ALL react the same way. "Why do you need another camera?" "How much? Are you out of your mind?" "You're not even an professional photographer." "What's so much better on that camera?" "Everything's manual and it's still so expensive?":rolleyes: In my case, I don't think I'll have too much of a problem. I've been speaking of the M9 for months now, regularly updating with details from this forum. She knows there's no power on this planet to prevent me from getting the next in line, so that works for me too. I don't really spend fortunes on other things (apart from nice watches), and she enjoys looking at my pictures, so that's one more plus. Last weekend we went to Paris and I accidentally mentioned my Billingham bag was the price of a small car. She ticked to that remark, but luckily I stayed cool and gave the impression that was entirely normal. No more mention of that. Never. Phhhhew So guys/gals, tell me, how are you going to present the child? Will you hide it? Will you stick tape on the "M9" logo and pretend it's the same camera? Will you tell her/him in an off-handed way? Will you boldly come out of the closet and face a few hours of pure hell, followed by long silences? Will you beg on your knees? Will you use corruption? There's absolutely no point in my having any discussion about horse expenditure, it will only cause grief - and so, rather than being grumpy about it, I can join in with the boss's excitement over new acquisitions. Same goes for the camera in the opposite direction. It's been discussed, and she'll get a little vicarious pleasure when I open the box. Good eh? I am in an even better position as my cat is carved from granite and as I bought it in Cairo probably can not speak english.However if you get stuck explaining the expendature to yourself the sum I use is as followes. Calculate the total cost /divide by the number of years of expected ownership:D x 54 / ie cost per week.If thats too much divide x 7 /ie cost per day.Eventually a suitably low cost is achieved.Then order the camera ( or whatever) and enjoy. While on a walk with my (frugal) wife, I casually mentioned my forthcoming M8 acquisition which engendered the anticipated "What are you thinking?" sort of comments. Pleading, I said she should consider this a tolerable manifestation of my mid-life crisis. Immediately, my wife stopped in her tracks, blessed the purchase and told me to "Go ahead, purchase whatever you want." Carl E Posted August 14, 2009 Share #9 Posted August 14, 2009 I took my wife to a "romantic weekend" in Cologne three years ago, and timed it so that it "happened to" co-incide with Photokina and the launch of the M8. As it happens both my wife and I own Leicas, my wife an R4s and I was the happy owner of an M6TTL at the time. As it turned out I did not buy my M8 until quite recently when I was able to pick up a nice second hand chrome M8, with a Luigi halfcase, for the same amount of cash that I was able to generate by selling my Canikon DSLR and two lenses. The only comment I received from my dear wife was that she would like one, too. So start early in preparing the ground for your next purchase is my advice. Daniel Leung Posted August 14, 2009 Share #10 Posted August 14, 2009 I never discuss with my wife about the $$ of my 'toys' ( she knows I have espenisve hobbiers anyway ) As long as the M9 look similar enough to the M8, I don't think she knows ( I hope ) Of course, she didn't know that I have traded in my M8 in 3 mohts to a M8.2. Fortunately, we are financially very stable. I have my kids colleges funds all ready. I always take care of the family needs b4 I got my toys. I just took the family to a very nice cruise trip in Europe for 16 days and they spent another week in London ( I have to come back to work so I only spent 2 days in London ) I love watches and I love cars. I bought nice watches for my self and a few for my wife. so, if she finds out and scream at me, I will tell her that what about the money that I spent for the family and her, I think....she should be cool then DL Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'll start with an offhand mention that something new is announced, and she will knowingly say "breaking the news?". Then she will say, "go ahead, you deserve it". But even here there are some limits. I can probably get away with an M9 (still waiting for the specs and I will noty buy one unless it is FF), but a S2 would be out of the question.
