But I would try to prove real fashion/glamour ability. I can't explain, for what current photos stand for.

I like Grieschek...he does great advertising work and I believe his strength is his ability to experiment and maintain fresh looks within his portfolio. In other words, he doesn't follow a single formula and is always giving the viewer some surprises...

The reason that these shots aren't going over well is mostly that the idea behind them seems to be confused in the context of selling an S2....They were all shot with a 1960s retro fashion feel and vibe. But the S2 is fully modern camera system that represents the future of digital photography. These 2 ideas are not really compatible because it doesn't make sense to look backwards and forwards at the same time. I think Grieschek's picture series would have been far more successful if photographed with film (maybe even shot with an M) because that would have maintained the retro 1960's type vibe. However, the S2 will probably sell better if it is used in pictorials featuring more modern or futuristic concepts. For example, the S2 might sell better if featured in test shots with modern studio flash as opposed to continuous lighting. Also, heavy digital manipulation and retouching are associated with modern/ futuristic. One of the reasons for the success of the Hasselblad promos is that many of them are thoroughly modern in terms of feel...Lotsa DPP...use of strobe....etc

Bottom line: The G shots are great, but probably should have been done on kodachrome instead of the S2. Selling the S2 is probably going to require a more modern or futuristic theme and technique...

These shots were made early in the development cycle, so it is quite possible that Leica did not want him to really push the boundaries or detail or colour yet.

I think we should wait until the first real ad-campaign and stop wondering about these early shots.

Hard to ignore the porfolio on S2 official website.

But yes, I'd also like to see some well lit hi quality fashion shots. And full resolutions files included..

hi everyone,

maybe leica didn´t want any postproduction done on these images in order to " keep it real "...

retouching would have made it impossible to judge the output of the s2.

that would explain it doesn´t look perfect.

besides: i really like the atmosphere grischek created...

The chances are that the S2's target audience are too busy working to consider wasting their time on internet forums.

Spot on, it's all piss and cabbage here; people saying "trust me, it'll do this and that" and yet never having done more than "played with" the demo-cams at a show.

So kids....just what WOULD you like to see in an S2 promotional site? Maybe someone can point me in the direction of some digital MF stuff on the web from another manufacturer that would do the format justice? Just curious, really.

Downloadable DNG files from landscapes, architectural, and fashion shots would be great. I think the only way to evaluate the camera is to have the raw files for us to look at in Lightroom for ourselves.

Then get the camera out to MF photographers to do comparisons with the competition.

Absolutely and totally agree, we need to get this side by side for many reasons. Feel is one of them and the ergonomics, feature sets, viewfinder, functionality , speed of use, Image size 4:3 Vs 3:2 and a whole list of things not to mention the files and how they process , look and than the technical stuff . DR, Tonal Range and a whole list of things that will swing a vote one way or the other on a buy decision. Some people may be able to justify buying it sight unseen which is fine but most want to test it's value and worth.

I have no idea what Leica's return policy would be on this camera but those buying without having actually had one to evaluate must have some kind of return option in the event it doesn't perform as expected or they have a lot of money to waste and gamble with. :)

Unless there is manufacturing fault or damage, I don't think they accept returns. It would probably be like other MF offerings. You test it out with the reps guiding you on the various things you want to achieve with the system. Then you could either rent or buy it. They would probably have loaners if the camera is in the shop.

Also LEICA Camera AG - On Location Havanna Havanna shots which I find stronger than the Berlin studio series

Indeed, I've seen everything about Havana already, also behind the scenes movie and X1 documentation shots.

Why I pointed out Berlin Studio work? Before the official launch there was other studio set what was quite questionable. Berlin shoot shows more conventional fashion / glamour approach. Area, where S2 will be used and valued.

Regardless of RG's portfolio shoot, I am very excited about the S2. I have seen dozens of S2 image files and they are spectacular! Detail, Tonal character and DR...it's all there! I have owned the PO P45+ and currently shoot with an H3DII-50 and can tell you that the S2 exceeds the capabilities of both.

Very exciting months ahead.

And you have waited three years since joining this forum for spreading this news just when the S2 simply refuses to turn up?

Unlike many other self proclaimed pros who don't seem to have anything to do other than to hang around this place 24 hours 7 days waiting indefinitely for a dream camera, or simply the next post showing up, I actually think that "ddanois" may be a real pro, because he doesn't seem to have a lot of time to waste the forum's bandwidth since he joined in 2006.

But hey, everybody sounds like a pro on this forum, but we've never seen a single photograph from many of them, and don't know who they really are ...

I have visited the forum frequently over the last few years since purchasing my first M8 but mostly enjoy the banter and humorous exchange of ideas. As for why I choose to share my opinion on the S2, it looked as though many others are lacking an informed perspective on the results from the S2 and I thought it would be helpful to hear from someone that has reviewed the images in detail. I enjoy the benefits of each of the systems that I own/use as each is a unique tool for a specific type of work. The S2 will be another uniques tool. No need to take my word for it as I'm sure the proof will surface very soon. I have ordered one and hope to have my unit within the next few weeks.
