twistedpixel Posted November 15, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 15, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Only had the camera for 2 days, so I am still getting familiar with the system. After a few disconcerting hours (I only used a RF when I was in my early teens, and that's a while back) toying with the camera, I started practicing focusing accurately and getting a little more the hang of holding the 'tiny' M8 (compared to the Nikon D2X, a Hassy 553ELX and an Arca LF camera) in my big clumsy hands. In a couple of weeks I'll be ready to venture through the streets of Shanghai. For this test I thought the M8 should 'meet' the Leica of Espresso machines Processed using C1 LE (using the Phase One P30 profile), no sharpening, no corrections whatsoever, just straight from the camera at ISO 160 using a Summicron 28mm f2 at f5.6 with 6bit coding. The crop is at 100%. Alessandro http://www.directlight.com

like_no_other Posted November 15, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 15, 2006 Looks very good to me, as wells the enlargement. I'm curious if the picture with the Leica profile would look different? Philip

Philip It looks very different Philip. Clearly something is wrong with the Leica M8 profile. Alessandro
like_no_other Posted November 15, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 15, 2006 Thanks for the demonstration. I hoped for magenta instead of black with the Leica profile;) The Leica profile seems to produce a warmer picture. With setting white balance point on the white cup or wall the pictures should look the same colour wise, I think. Don't know about the details both conversions produce. Actually, if you look closely (besides the obvious warm cast, that I didn't correct for this test) you can see magenta hues creeping in the the highlight on the black base, the reflection on the tin and the bounced reflection on the grilled tray. Nevertheless, magenta cast aside, I am very pleased with the overall image quality. Btw, I used the 'cloudy" WB setting on camera. Alessandro
