Annibale G. Posted August 10, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 10, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I need some advice. I 'm going to buy a new leica R lenses. Actually I have the 90mm f/2,8 ; sometimes it seem too close for me. So the choice is between buying the R 60 mm macro or the 80mm f/1,4. Does someone knows something about those lenses? Any advice? Thanks awfully.
Advertisement Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Hi Annibale G., Take a look here Leica R Summilux 1,4 vs Leica Elmarit R 60 2,8 Macro. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bscott Posted August 10, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 10, 2009 I have the 60 macro and it is one of my favorite lens. I have no experience with the 80 but it has a great reputation. The question is which lens fits your needs since they are all close together in range.
Annibale G. Posted August 10, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted August 10, 2009 mmm i said sometimes the 90 seems to closer for me, but sounds like the 80 more or less. So maybe 60? I've forgot: I'm not going to use the 60 for macro use.
andybarton Posted August 10, 2009 Share #4 Posted August 10, 2009 The 60 is an outstanding lens when not used for macro work it was one of the first two I converted to Nikon mount. I have always used it in preference to my much newer 50 Summicron If I were to buy another R lens, it would be the 80 lux
4X5B&W Posted August 10, 2009 Share #5 Posted August 10, 2009 The R80 Lux. is a fabulous lens.....truly a classic, the perfect complement for the R35 Lux. However, the R50 Lux. is a better match to your R90 Elmarit, then maybe something on the wide angle side somewhere down the road.....maybe a R35 Elmarit, superb optics in a compact, cost effective package (no longer available new). roguewave Posted August 10, 2009 Share #6 Posted August 10, 2009 The R 80 lux is by far the most superior lens in the R system. Hands down. Sell the 90 & then buy the 80 Summilux. Then buy the macro 60. The images rendered by the 80 lux at 1.4 are unlike any other. It is the Nocti of the R system, only better. The bokeh, is not even more lovely than the Nocti and it has just a bit larger field in focus so you don't have to search the entire image to find something meaningful that's actually in focus. There is no second to this lens.
gunnarinla Posted August 11, 2009 Share #7 Posted August 11, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I almost sold my 60mm today, but the buyer wanted my 135, my 2xTele-extender and the extender for the 60mm... I saw that a poster here had converted it for Nikon use and that intrigued me....I do have the Nikon 55mm macro and have felt for along time that it is absolutely superb, but have never tried to precisely compare the two macros...the Leica lens is heavy and solid, superb... Now I have to post another post about how to clean the inside of a Telyt-R 560,5.6...
Annibale G. Posted August 11, 2009 Author Share #8 Posted August 11, 2009 60 and 80?? no, i don't like to carry and to use too many lenses. I'm going to use the M with the 35 or 28 and the R camera with 60 and/or 90 or just the 80. That's the problem. Otherwise it seems also that the 90 2,8 is better in quality not luminosity of course than the 80 1,4. I still don't know what to do.
wizard Posted August 11, 2009 Share #9 Posted August 11, 2009 The 60 is much cheaper to obtain than the 'lux 80. So why don't you buy yourself a 60 and give it a try? If you like it, keep it, if you don't, sell it and get the 80 instead. Andy
andybarton Posted August 11, 2009 Share #10 Posted August 11, 2009 The 60 will do things that the 80 and 90 cannot do. The 80 will do things that the 60 and 90 cannot do The 90 is a very nice lens I own both an older 60 Macro-Elmarit, and the 90 Summicron (non APSH). Both of them are outstanding lenses, especially given how little they cost these days. But, as has been said before, the 80 is in a league of its own. I would trade the 90 for the 80 if I were looking for an 80, but I would keep the 60.
dave_d Posted August 11, 2009 Share #11 Posted August 11, 2009 I have the 60 and the 80 and love them both for different reasons but I always thought I would like the 90 and the 100 too. In all honesty, the 80 isn't much shorter than the 90 so I would go with the 60 if you had to pick only one and the 90 seems too long for you. The 60, 80, & 100 is a nice combination to own.
