Who Makes Their Own Sensors?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering what camera companies make their own sensors? Do just Canon, Sony, and Kodak that make full frame sensors? Thanks!

Full frame sensors are made by Canon, DALSA (formerly Philips), Kodak, and Cypress (formerly FillFactory). Fuji does not currently make a full frame sensor, but has, in the past, made even larger sensors, such as 46x48mm medium format digital back sensors. Panasonic made Canon's first 1.3x crop sensor, and could probably be up to speed on full frame very quickly.

Kodak did not actually use their own full frame sensor in their full frame cameras: 14n, SLR/n, and SLR/c. They went with FillFactory: it's commonly believed this was done for cost reasons.

Panasonic makes the near APS (2x crop) sized sensors used in the Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 (rebranded as the Leica Digilux 3) and the closely related Olympus E-330.

Fuji makes the APS sensors used in their S1, S2, S3, and S5 DSLRs.

Canon makes the APS sensors used on all their DSLRs. Their first 1.3x crop camera, the 1D, used a Panasonic sensor.

Foveon makes the smallish APS (1.7x) crop sensors used in the Sigma SD9, SD10, and SD14 DSLRs, and the DP1 (a large sensor point and shoot).

Nikon mostly uses Sony sensors. Nikon designed a unique sensor called LBCAST used for the Nikon D2H and D2Hs, but I have no idea if it was fabbed by Nikon, Sony, or a third party.

Sony makes the APS sized 1.5x crop sensors used by Nikon, Pentax, Sony, and the former Konica/Minolta.

I think I got everybody.

(Just a "Benutzer", but life could be worse)

Don't look at me, the first time I replied to someone on this forum, I addressed "Ben Utzer".
