Mitchell W Baum Posted November 15, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 15, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Amsterdam Leica dealer just told me that one of his customers used a P45 digital medium format back profile (presumeably C1)on some of his M8 files, and it solved the purple IR problem. This could make sense because some medium format backs don't have AA filters like the M8. Though it would be odd that C1 and Leica didn't already work this out. If this works it will be great. Save your purple files. P.S. I brought an M8 on Monday in Masstricht (sp) without being on a list. I emailed all the dealers in the Netherlands before I came from the States. There were others with M8 a few days ago. Best, Mitchell

edlaurpic Posted November 15, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 15, 2006 If this is correct, that would be good news, but what about those of us who are too old and/or lazy to learn the C1 software and who are stuck in ACR/PS CS2? I also like the intuitive feel of, but get confused by, Lightroom . . .am I the only one? (I wouldn't be surprised). Seriously, though, can someone extrapolate from the C1 P45 profile and come up with a profile that will work in ACR - CS2? That would be great if it can be done. I am using the B+W UW/IR 486 cut filters and get good results with ACR if I really experiment with the files, but it's still a litle disconcerting to open the DNG and have to play around with the sliders to get something that looks like it wasn't dipped in red wine. Again, is there a siimple drill to use in ACR to make a DNG file look right (i.e. a DNG produced using the 486 filter with an M8)? In the alternative, how hard is it to learn C1 if one has had some limited, untutored experience with ACR but never tried C1? I feel like someone who has been driving a car for fifty years and, now that the cataracts have been removed from both eyes, is doing just fine and now has to sit at the controls of a fighter plane to make a photograph. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to go back to D-76 and slides and prints from the local lab, no matter what, but can't this be made a little simpler after we get home, having already captured the image with our beloved Leica glass? hammam Posted November 15, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 15, 2006 Ed, C1 LE is one of the easiest Raw converter I've tried.
nielsb Posted November 15, 2006 Share #4 Posted November 15, 2006 Ed, C1 LE is one of the easiest Raw converter I've tried. Be as it may regarding that. I doubt that a user, especially the pro's, who has their workflow nailed down with some other software than C1 would be too impressed if Leica came back and said that, "in order to get proper pics from the camera you just have spent $$$$ on, you have to use this particular software". It's a bit like saying: "in order to run this car properly you have to use petrol from Shell - no other brand will do". I think it is great that there seems to be work-arounds out there (Jamie and his C1 profile, filters etc), but the soution from Leica can not be to dictate what software to use. Niels Niels, I didn't read that Leica "dictated" what software to use. Somedy just had the idea to try a certain profile in a certain Raw converter. If you want DNG (M8's native Raw format), then a few programs can convert it, PS CS2 plug-in, Phase One C1, among others, I guess. And you don't seem to know that Leica bundle Capture One LE for free with the M8. Unless we're talking C1 Pro, here. Mitchell, C1 LE does not seem to have the P45 profile listed. Does the P45 profile only come with C1 Pro?
hammam Posted November 15, 2006 Share #6 Posted November 15, 2006 Careful of my wording here. if you download the Pro demo version than reopen the LE version you just might find that in there. You did not here that from me Thank you, Guy. Noted. Now delete that post :-)
