IcoLove Posted August 7, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey all I had this happen on a frame, it's quite weird... this is the only frame in the camera with this issue. It was frame 9A. Anybody have any idea what happened? M4-P, Summicron-M 35 f/2 ASPH, Portra 160NC Thanks Craig

Anybody have any idea what happened? M4-P, Summicron-M 35 f/2 ASPH, Portra 160NC Thanks Craig ...some preliminary questions, Craig: a) was the camera with you from frames 00 to 36? was the lens detached from the body at any stage between 00 and 36? c) was the base plate removed at any stage between 00 and 36? Any other information you have would be useful. There is an explanation, we just need to be smart in our deduction. .
danmitch Posted August 7, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 7, 2009 Hi Looks very similar to a problem I had, see this thread: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/film-forum/90058-flare.html I have run several rolls through since and haven't been able to re-create the problem, even with lens changes deliberately in strong light, wobbling anything with any potential for play or movement. It does seem most people believe it is a light like of some sort, but in my case at least, it has rectified itself. Dan
doubice Posted August 7, 2009 Share #4 Posted August 7, 2009 Any possibilty of you having changed lenses close to a stong source of light? With the shutter crate opening facing into the light? Or - did the camera sit with the lens removed, facing a source of light? It looks like a light leak to me; particularly if it only happened on one frame. Heya Answers..... a) Yes No c) No I can see from the following message it's been seen before. I just had the camera CLA'd, and I've contacted him and attached the image... see what he has to say. Thanks for the responses. I do have the camera in one of those leatherette things, so I can't see light leaks on the bottom or back door. IcoLove Posted August 8, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted August 8, 2009 Just a followup After speaking with David Yau (Leica repair guru in Toronto). I found it's definitely a light leak. I never removed the lens, however... the camera sat outside @ f/2 (diaphram open) and pointed towards a setting sun while I cooked and ate dinner. That would be more than enough light to cause the leak. Learn new stuff everyday. Thanks Craig

NEVER leave a Leica sitting anywhere when there is a possibility of the sun shining into the lens. As a kid - didn't you play tricks with a magnifying glass, sun and a piece of paper? danmitch Posted August 9, 2009 Share #8 Posted August 9, 2009 Craig - It would be good to hear a final assessment of how this is fixed and where the leak was. As well as my earlier thread, there is a similar leak that was discussed on flickr a few months ago here: Flickr: Discussing Flare or leak? in Leica Black and White An old thread on LUG suggested a shutter bounce ... It certainly seems to be reported from time to time on various different M bodies but I have never seen a conclusive answer. Dan
