Marty Posted August 7, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Now that the barriers of silence, patience and modesty have been burned down with desire for the imminent full frame M9, and the veil of mystery has been shred by the forces of speculation, I feel entitled to ask what if any new 35mm lens is going to accompany the launch of the body? Ivar B Posted August 7, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 7, 2009 During the discussion in the Hessenpark, Stefan Daniel hinted that he thought the lens lineup was now more or less complete. He did say, however, that they were thinking on a replacement for the Summilux 1.4/35 ASPH due to the focus shift problems. I also asked if there would be a new Summicron 2/50 soon (the current lens being the oldest design still made) and he replied that the designers had said that the lens could not be improved upon without exceeding the current cost level considerably. Yes, this is a lens that is widely expected. I would be interested in such a lens to replace my existing 35 Summilux (that is if a full-frame digital M is not forthcoming at an acceptable price) but I fear it will be priced like the new 24 and 21 Summiluxes - i.e. well in excess of £3k. Not with cash, but swapped with a carton full of 'American Triple A CMO's (Colleteralized Mortgage Obligations).

You'll probably need at least a 20' container full these days.
