michaelgood Posted August 6, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 6, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) My D-LUX-4 is showing a completely black LCD. I can go through all the menu functions and read them fine, even fire the flash, but all I get is a black LCD - no image. It's like I have a lens cap on, but I don't. I've reset the camera to factory specs, taken the battery out, waited, and put it back in, etc but nothing changes. The camera has not been dropped. It was working fine one day and then the black screen the next. Has anyone else run into this? Or does anyone know how to return it to normal? Or am I hosed and need to send it in for repair? Thanks for the help. Michael USA

prk60091 Posted August 6, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 6, 2009 Just a thought can you see the histogram?
wales Posted August 6, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 6, 2009 Hi michael I have just bought the dlux 4, and taken a few shots and my only comment in connection to your comment is that there is a huge difference to the brightness of the photo when being reviewed and when viewed on a monitor, they are far darker. So I have a similar problem, however when viewed in dull light, the review is much closer to reality. Strange. On thing have you looked at the setting for the monitor brightness. Hope this helps jon
michaelgood Posted August 6, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted August 6, 2009 Just a thought can you see the histogram? No, I cannot because I cannot see an image. I can see the red Leica logo on startup and can navigate through all the menus, but no image.

Thanks. i do not have my dl4 w/me today..but there is a setting to turn off the lcd screen (ostensibly for use when you are using the optical viewfinder and to save battery life)... if you can navigate screens i would go through them all to find the setting for the viewfinder good luck

The only menu item I can find like that is called EXT. VIEWFINDER which gives the option of on or off. I've tried both but the LCD is still completely black. I keep hoping there is a simple setting to change, but so far it has eluded me. Thanks.

Shootist Posted August 7, 2009 Share #9 Posted August 7, 2009 Is it black just after the shutter is fired, review mode? Or is it still blank/black when you try to view the shots taken some time after they are taken, playback mode? May you have the review feature turned off. It is black all the time -- when I turn it on, after the shutter fires, on playback, etc. I never see an image. This camera has worked great for the last six months then without warning all I see is black. It is literally like having a lens cap on all the time. But the menus all appear and I can navigate through them. They are now all against the same solid black background. I was hoping it was a menu problem but it's beginning to look like something more serious. Thanks.

The only option is to send it to Leica to be fixed.

Lumistu Posted August 28, 2009 Share #13 Posted August 28, 2009 Have you tried the reset option in the menu? This would reset the camera to the factory settings. Good luck. Tony
