scjohn Posted August 6, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 6, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have read all of the M9 posts forever without comment. For whatever reason, I feel like commenting now. I would LOVE full frame. Be honest? Who wouldn't. I fell in love with film bodies and invested in my lens as a film body user. I bought my 21 2.8 used before the M8 came out because I knew I would need it for the crop based on how I use my camera and the prices had not yet jumped. But I learned to enjoy the 21 mm perspective on my m7 while I waited for the m8 "official announcement." When the m8 came out, I missed the width the 21 gave me on the m7. I bought a CV 15 to "tide me over." I bought the "old" Nocti with my "sorry for the problems with the m8 launch" rebate. I longed for the new 21 1.4 and 24 1.4 but $6k??? (To get what I have with my 35 1.4, 50 1.4 and 50 1.0 already if only I can get full frame? No deal! I will buy a full frame m9 in a second. If it even approaches the D3's low noise characteristics i will throw my flash off the roof and may throw my D3 off as well. My 21, 35, 50, and 90 is all I need in full frame. Low noise is all I need for the natural light work I do forever.

rob_x2004 Posted August 6, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 6, 2009 Grass is always greener on the other side of the lake. Now...what kind of boat to get me there.
hx911 Posted August 6, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 6, 2009 Well, I learned to love the M8, and got used to the crop factor - maybe because I have no comparison, as I do not own a film M. I do have a 5D, which I loved before I had the M8, and the High Iso performance is something I miss on the M8. Provided the sensitivity of the sensor is somewhere close to the 5d (I'd love to see a usable 3200, or even 6400) I would buy one. Full frame and extra MP would seal the deal. Not sure though if I would sell the M8, I guess I more likely would sell the 5d then. But at present - Pie in the sky (albeit so close, we can nearly smell it!) marknorton Posted August 6, 2009 Share #4 Posted August 6, 2009 I would be surprised if they went the Nikon D3 route with a FF sensor - large chunky pixels to give low noise but lowish resolution which requires a heavy duty AA filter to keep the aliasing at bay. Not the Leica way. More likely IMHO would be a sensor with resolution scaled on the existing pixel pitch with noise improvements brought by improved technology - sensor, A/D conversion, firmware processing, in other words, a D3x, not a D3. I expect there will be plenty of bitching about the price here too. I'm steeling myself for £4990, €5990, $7495 (+ tax), say.
vikasmg Posted August 6, 2009 Share #5 Posted August 6, 2009 More likely IMHO would be a sensor with resolution scaled on the existing pixel pitch with noise improvements brought by improved technology - sensor, A/D conversion, firmware processing, in other words, a D3x, not a D3. I'd go for that. Though let's not specify prices too often in the forum in case there's a chance that it lands up being cheaper :-)
sdai Posted August 6, 2009 Share #6 Posted August 6, 2009 €5990 seems to be too high even if it is really FF, remember Stefan Daniel says they dropped the R10 because they can't make it cheaper than €6000?
marknorton Posted August 6, 2009 Share #7 Posted August 6, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Indeed but I was working on a 25% increase over the M8.2 which is rather less than Nikon and Canon charge for their top of the line cameras over the next one down (D3x/D3, EOS 1dS III/EOS whatever). Åmund Posted August 6, 2009 Share #8 Posted August 6, 2009 Will there be a M9 forum when the new era begins? In that case I hope all of the M8 forum members will join it. You are quite a facinating lot of characters and I would miss you! Åmund:confused:
