Hi Leica Forum,

I'm new to this forum and will be soon shooting film again, but now with a M7 and 35 Lux. My previous experience with 35mm film has been with Nikon bodies and lenses. With Nikon SLRs, I was printing from chromes but now will use color negative film, as my local photo processor recommends submitting color neg to produce my 11x14 color prints. He is also recommending Ektar 100.

I would like to use polarizing and graduated ND filters in my scenic photography but don't find any available at BH or Adorama in the small Leica lens sizes such as E46. Do Leica M photographers use filters such as these? I have found these two filters very useful in my landscape photography with past DSLRs. What filters do any of you use with your M cameras?

Thanks, Peter

I've got four different E46 filters for my 35 Lux: Pol, 4x ND, Red 25, and Warming; all Heliopan special orders. Leica filter sizes are odd, so you won't find too many actually in stock anywhere.

I use the Pol most, but all periodically.

The best pola is the swing out one Leica makes for the M. Rotate it over the VF or top of the camera, adjust pola angle, then swing back 180 deg to over the lens. Has a built in shade for 35mm lens.

B+W also makes specials and they are around the same price as standards of similar size.

B&H has many 46 mm filters including red, green, yellow showing in stock.

Tried that, hated it. The much cheaper, and IMO more practical solution are the STEPS from Leicagoodies www.leicagoodies.com - constant viewing, none of that swinging around nonsense, and a standard filter diameter to boot.

Bill

I can imagine the swinging being a bit annoying, but isn't it looking a bit "too much" having a 77mm filter on a 39mm thread?

Is the 60->77 ring with the cutouts a standard Heliopan product? It seems that the STEPS set is not that cheap compared to individual step-up rings bought from Heliopan.
