After consulting the opinions of people on the forum about the Jupiter-3, I went ahead and bought one on eb@y. Surprisingly, it arrived in one piece, and I'm really pleased with it.

The lens is very low contrast, colors are relatively desaturated, it has an overall softness which makes it look very 'dreamy', the corners are quite smudged, it has a tendency to flare and there is chromatic aberration and highlight 'glow'. Almost everything that is out-of-focus tends to become 'bubble-bokeh' - great for flickr stardom!

All of these things are normally undesirable these days, but I love the spirit of the lens and the 'romantic' look of it.

These images are just a quick selection of test or family shots that I did over the weekend - I was testing the lens because I intend to take it on holiday - including the beach! It costs about the same as a pair of women's boots - and this makes my partner pretty happy.

The last shot with the swing was taken with extreme contrast between bright sunlight and deep shade under the tree: the lens flattened everything so much I actually increased contrast a little in the posted shot.

Here's a 100% crop to show the softness, bubble-bokeh, and chromatic aberration all in one area! Lovely! :)
