antistatic Posted July 31, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 31, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) As soon as I begin to get used to Tri X in Tmax developer, both shops in my town are out of Tmax developer and can only shrug their collective shoulders when I ask when it might be in stock. The only developers available are ID-11 and Microphen. What developer would you choose for Tri X @ 400. I don't mind some grain but want highlights and shadows preserved. Thanks for any advice. Advertisement Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Hi antistatic, Take a look here Tri X @ 400. ID-11 or Microphen?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sgoetzin Posted July 31, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 31, 2009 ID-11 is the Ilford equivalent of Kodak D76 (metol-hydroquinone developer). TRI-X and D76/ID11 @ 400 ISO is a very good combination which gives excellent tone values. This combi. has been used by many well known photographers. See http://wwwbefr.kodak.com/global/en/professional/support/techPubs/f4017/f4017.pdf which gives you the starting times for D76 and TRI-X. These times might be slightly different for ID11. see -> http://www.ilfordphoto.com/Webfiles/200621612182416.pdf If you shoot TRI-X at 1600 or 3200 ISO, Microphen might be the better choice. Good luck, Serge
micky Posted July 31, 2009 Share #3 Posted July 31, 2009 Yeah, I agree. ID-11 is good. Also try to dilute it 1+1 at 320iso or even 200-250 on a sunny day. Micky
mhulbert Posted July 31, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 31, 2009 If you shoot TRI-X at 1600 or 3200 ISO, Microphen might be the better choice. Or Ilford DDX, which works like a treat with TriX at 1600
