Finnkare Posted July 31, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 31, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anybody use the slip-on filter holders with their Leica M? I'm always frustrated with filters when I buy new gear or if I have to change between different sizes when shooting... I don't trust Cokin filters, since they don't seem to meet my optical standards. Any other choices worthy of using with Leica? And not too bulky with an M.
Advertisement Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Hi Finnkare, Take a look here Rectangular filter systems (Cokin, Lee, etc.) with Leica M. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Marty Posted July 31, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 31, 2009 I use the Lee RF 75 kit with different ND grads and CirPol. It is lightweight and easy to change from one lens to another as it simply clips onto a mounting ring. With practice (and esp. with digital) you will know soon enough how to position the grad accurately. Two other things to note: it can block part of the rangefinder window making close focusing difficult, and secondly it "only" supports up to 67mm diameter. I am happy with it. Oh yes, the finder blocking is probably the main reason why they aren't popular with RFs. Cokin A is maybe a bit smaller, even though the filters are square. I don't know, though, whether it will vinjett with some wide angles...
Marty Posted July 31, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 31, 2009 Apart from the compulsory UV/IRs (all Leica, and a B+W backup) the Lee is my only filter kit so unfortunately I can't offer any comparisons. I went through the usual review material out there and decided it was the most practical and the highest regarded brand that offers such an RF system. There does not seem to be much choice for M anyway unless you only need ND or polariser - then there are some nice slim screw-in alternatives. Oh yes, I understand, but more than the brand I meant the kind of filters you use - do you use any other filters than NDgrads and CirPol? Plus the UV/IRs.
