can't comment Zeiss.

I have the CV. Is a very nice lens, tiny, precise. One soft corner on mine.

Nice contrast, nice color balance.

If you can live with the possibility of getting a sample with imperfect symmetry, get the CV. Maybe you get a perfectly centered lens and live happily ever after.

HI Mark

I'll add to the clamour of zeiss lovers. I think it might be the sharpest lens I own (between it and the 75 'cron). It's really sharp and handles nicely. Mine was coded by John Milich and brings up the right framelines.

I don't use the hood, it doesn't seem to susceptible to flare, and it makes it easier with the viewfinder.

Excellent lens.

ljclark, thank you for sharing your experience.

ashwin, glad to hear that you got the lens. what do you plan to about the coding? millich? i think my only concern, as there has been so much praise about the lens, is whether the higher contrast drawing will render the b&w images to deep to bring out detail. i don't minder a little higher contrast as long as it is not at the sacrifice of too much detail. i would love to hear what your experience is like with lens!

Piero, Jono, and ldhrads, thank you for your contribution to this discussion. Its obvious that the Zeiss a favorite for many. I've tried my share of Leica glass, and now have a 50 Nokton, so I think I want to give the Zeiss a try and see how it compares.

I just saw on feebay for about 600 but it needed to be modified to bring up the right framelines. I figured without the hassle and money to do that, it wasn't really worth it. If anyone knows of a seller please let me know.

I wish! Everyone, thank you for your advice and comments. I just ordered a 25 Biogon from popflash today.

Do keep the 28 Cron and do add the Elmarit 24.

I do have both. Really great lenses. The Elamrit 24 being my dayly favorite.

Have it coded.

Alright, Mark! I ade the same decision a week ago, and I am thrilled, both in the transaction with Popflash and with the lens, as you know! I did get the hood, which is quite nice as well. This is a lens that piques my curiosity about other zeiss lenses....but one must stop somewhere:D

cyberean, glad to know that the lens has served you well. i think at the same speed (unless Leica had a 24 'cron to fall between the lux and elmarit), I would not really be tempted to switch. There are quite a few who seem to consider the 25 Biogon the best ZM lens. I should get it today or Monday to test it out for myself.

Ashwin, thanks again for sharing your experience. I personally don't like shopping from B and H, Adorama, or the larger stores unless I have to. Tony at Popflash is a great guy who provides personal service. I picked up an extra dlux4 battery last month from there for $19--he had a special discounted stock. Even though he could have sold them at retail he extended the discount to his customers. That really impressed me.

Lars, while I don't foresee going as wide as 15 or 18 on the M8, I will remember your recommendation should the need/desire ever arise. Thanks.

For those of you who own the 25 Biogon, could you tell me what the feel of the focus ring is like on yours? I have briefly heard from Ashwin what he experienced with his new lens (which sounds similar to what I am seeing), but I am wondering how the more broken-in versions are like.

This is my first Zeiss lens, and having been spoiled by well calibrated Leica lenses, I am wondering whether the "stickiness" or "resistance" I feel when focusing, mostly at all points, but some spots have a slight more tension than others. I have been moving the focus ring back and forth to try and break it in, but the grip on the ring makes it an unpleasing task for my fingers.

I'm wondering whether I should send it back for another copy or if its just how these lenses are made. I would like to know how your copies behave, especially in comparison to Leica lenses like the 35 lux ASPH or 25 Summicron, which never felt like they needed to be broken-in but were adjusted perfectly straight out of the box. Thanks in advance.

All my Zeiss (18, 21, 25) lenses are smooth and linear. The 18 feels very much like my newish 35mm Summicron. The 25 is stiffer, but still smooth through the range.

re contrast of ZMs... it is all abou exposure and development. All ZMs will produce sumptuous, smooth, tonal negs and prints as log as you give enough exposure and not too much development. It helps if you are not shooting with very low contrast lenses on the same roll. I shoot 95% ZMs and the images are beautiful. People who are having problems with ZMs, shooting B&W film, are actually having problems with their darkroom/wet processing understanding. Digi is another issue.

fully agreed, just got my Zeiss 2.8/25 2 days ago, extremely well built, smooth focus ring, the rendition is perfect for me.

Absolutely, positively - the Zeiss 2,8/25 Biogon ZM. It's probably my favorite and certainly my most used lens... Oddly, with both film and digital. It's stupid sharp, contrasty, well saturated, zero distortion, flat field, yada yada.

I have been thinking of the 25 CV. The Ultron 2.0 I have is easy to handcode, is the CV 25 also easy to handcode?

I think I have one...

Need to do some proper tests, but mine is sharp sharp sharp, across the frame.
