Focus Posted July 24, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi! I recently bought the Voigtländer 50-70mm screwmount adapter for M bodies, but I can´t get my old Elmar 50/3,5 to work properly, there is not enough gap between the lens and body for the infinity lock button to be pressed. Is this a known issue, or does anyone else have the same problem? I couldn´t find any other thread about this, but if it has been discussed earlier sorry for this. Advertisement Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Hi Focus, Take a look here Elmar 50 on M body?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Finnkare Posted July 24, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 24, 2009 On which body did you try?
bill Posted July 24, 2009 Share #3 Posted July 24, 2009 I strongly suspect that it's not the body, it's the adaptor. You need one with a cutout to allow the infinity lock to move freely. They are readily available. Regards, Bill
wizard Posted July 24, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 24, 2009 I second Bill. It is the adaptor. To the best of my knowledge, there are two versions of the Voigtländer adaptors, an older one without the cutout and a newer one (version II?) that has the cutout. Why don't you get a used original Leitz/Leica-adaptor? They are usually not expensive and have always had the necessary cutout. Andy

The cutout is needed for the infinity lock on the old 5cm and shorter lenses - but it can also let stray light affect the 6-bit sensors on an M8. This seems to be why Voigtlander revised the design of their adapters last year. Either an older Voigtlander adapter or a Leitz/Leica one will work for you. doubice Posted July 24, 2009 Share #6 Posted July 24, 2009 Alternatively, the infinity lock mechanism can be removed. If using an M8 and you wish to have the adapter coded, this may be the best option. It is a very simple and reversible procedure: The infinity lock consists of three removable parts - the domed/grooved upper part, an interior spring and the lower part which engages in the cut-out in the lens mount. Using propper tools, you can unscrew the parts and the lens will end up without the locking function. The only detriment is that removal of the lens from the camera will be a trifle more inconvenient. The infinity lock serves only one function - to prevent the lens unit from turning when it is being removed from or mounted on the body. As I mentioned above - the procedure is reversible, all the parts can be re-installed and the lens returned to its original state. Best, Jan
Focus Posted July 24, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted July 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you for all the replies! I use it with an M3 body, so basically I will search for either an old Leica adaptor or another version of the Voigtländer Thanks
