Digital camera for M lenses

Sorry my bad english, maybe I don't choose the correct words, but I'm sure you all know what I mean...

The Leica M clearly is a niche product. For many years Leica claimed it just wasn't possible to make a digital M. The M lenses are among the best in the world, but if you want a sensor to show the quality its construction becomes extremely difficult - hence the M8's crop factor. Now, why should any manufacturer aside from Leica go to all the trouble of making such a sensor/camera?

You can put an M lens on a Panasonic G1 via an adaptor, but don't complain if the picture quality with anything below a focal length of 35mm is lousy: the thing just wasn't made for Leica lenses.

So, if you want to benfit from Leica lenses - buy a Leica, albeit a used one.

I have to agree with Manfred. A G1 or any other 4/3 camera is in my view a compromise too far.

It is possible to get ex-demo M8s at good prices now. It's just a case of keeping one's eyes open.

If you have used other Leica bodies (which you have), then I don't think you would regret the purchase.

Just my 0.02€/p worth...

Cheers

Depends. I would wait for 9/9 on the unlikely chance that a full frame M9 is released. If that happens, used M8 prices will drop to a new low.

The "low" would depend on the price of the M9 and how many M8 users decide buy it. Can anyone foresee a FF M9 body at less than £4.0K when the M8.2 is currently £3.5 K (ish). A used M8 at £1.75K (ish) is still a bargain in comparison.

An M9 could more likely be more than £4K.

Cheers
