What to do with this lens

Bought a used Biogon 25/2.8 on the bay a few months ago, I liked the FOV but I'm new to Leica/RF photography. Tried coding it but eventually found out that because the flange brought up the wrong framelines, the computer wouldn't accept the coding. Sent it back to Zeiss for new flange. They contacted me and said did you notice that it was very stiff to focus, I said, yes stiffer than my leitz lenses, they said it needed rebuilt at factory since the helicoil was worn out. Now it was stiff and jumpy in one spot, but I didn't mind too much. They offered me a new one for ~$500 and would send me back the old as well. I figured a new lens was great for that price and it arrived today.

Beautiful 28mm/2.8 biogon.

Wait a minute, I sent in a 25mm??!!, I'm sure they'll take it back in exchange for a 25mm, but is it worth the trouble? I'll still get the 25mm back, and it's quite useable. I had originally planned to put the old one back on the bay with the caveat that it was stiff, but now I'm not sure.

Any thoughts??

By the way, I'll post some of my first 8.2 pics soon, just returned from Wyoming!!!

Sure life sucks,:D

If this is the worst it gets than I'm really in trouble.

Do you like the 28?

I haven't even unboxed it yet. I'll probably end up keeping both, but just wanted some thoughts if I were to only keep one.

Thanks

I just bought a new 28mm/2.8 for € 549,- so $ 500,- sounds about right. ... so as I understand it, you now have a slightly stiff 25mm and a brand new 28mm. Life sucks.

I'd like to buy Euros from you in exchange for USD :D

My Zeiss only arrived today ... after I came back from a trip to the Maginot Line in France %$#@! So I'll have to go out and shoot some more photos before I can tell if I like it :D

Note the "about" ... :p My rate would be about 1.5 dollar for a Euro. :D

BTW: it still pays to check US versus UK versus Europe versus Asia when buying online. Exchange rates not withstanding, prices vary a lot. Big firms like Leica woke up to that fact, but other items will sometimes go $=€ ...

I would have insisted on getting a Biogon 25 mm 2,8. After all; that was what you ordered. Must be a mistake. I have been to Wyoming. Fort Laramie, Yellowstone Natioal park, Cheyenne and all that. A tourist guide proudly showed me 'Wyoming's oldest house', at Fort Laramie and built around 1880. He looked startled when I told him that the house I live in here in Oslo is 80 years older... As old as the US Constitution.

Still, this story confirms that, at least the first ZM lenses to hit the market wasn't so good. I have two ZMs: A ZM 25 mm 2,8 Biogon, optically excellent, but not coded and with the old rangefinder cam. I also have a ZM 50 mm 2,0 which I bought 2.hand. It has a loose inner barrel.

I should like to know what the ZM customers in general have of experiences regarding ZM reliability. After all, along with Voigtländer, Carls Zeiss/Cosina come out as winner because of the M8 launch. Quite a few M8 buyers have a squeezed liquidity after their hefty purchase. Then it is far more tempting to buy a cheaper lens alternative.

I'm expecting the 25mm back. They wont be keeping it. I was happy with it before, just obsessive about "correctness". I will continue to use it and consider the 28 a "bonus" since the 25 will continue to be "stupid sharp"
