However, my flash photos do not appear as sharp and the colors tend to bleed. Any suggestions on settings I would appreciate. Thanks! Rick

ho_co Posted November 12, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 12, 2006 I have noticed that my daylight photos with this little camera are simply amazing! However, my flash photos do not appear as sharp and the colors tend to bleed. Any suggestions on settings I would appreciate. Thanks! Rick-- Sorry, no suggestions. But maybe some workarounds: You're right. The flash is lousy. But a bigger flash would mean a bigger camera, so it wouldn't be the jewel it is. One help is to set ISO to AUTO. Although in daylight that causes the ISO to vary from 80 to 200, the camera will raise it as far as ISO 400 with flash. (Better exposure but a lot of grain.) Another suggestion is to shoot RAW. That can give you a bit more leeway. Try increasing the lighting where you're shooting--ceiling lamps, table lamps, park your car out front with the headlights shining thru the windows, candles, whatever. Use a tripod and skip the flash. Or use a slow shutter speed and a tripod and the flash (2nd curtain sync, "dragging the shutter"). The only thing that really does work is using a slave flash. I have a little Metz automatic unit that I can mount on a bracket beside the camera. I set the Metz to an ISO/f-stop combination that the D-Lux 2 can match (nothing faster than f/5.6). And then when I fire the in-camera flash, it fires the Metz. No easy solution, I'm afraid. I use flash occasionally, but not often with this camera. Good luck! --JC
