drums1977 Posted July 15, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 15, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone! I'm considering getting a 50 mm lens, and loads of options of course. At first I thought about a 1.4 Simmulix or Summicron, but then thought of the Noctiluxes and Noktons. I found this article that says the new Nokton is better than the Noctilux... Voigtlander 50/1.1 Nokton Well guys, do you have experience with these lenses? What would be your advice? Thank you! J.
Advertisement Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Hi drums1977, Take a look here 50 mm (Nokton , Noctilux, Summicron, Summilux...). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
leica007 Posted July 15, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 15, 2009 Mate, you are slightly late, by 2 or 3 months, in reporting/noticing this! Tom tested the prototype ages ago. There're vibrant threads on the Range Finder Forum on this lens - discussion and sample photos.

JosefSchachner Posted July 15, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 15, 2009 You can't go wrong with a decently recent summicron (I have the one with the metal clip on hood, next one has the build in hood, but as far as i know they are optical identical), used reasonable priced :-) I would take the article you refer to with a grain of salt, the nocton is still a very big lens, more expensive than a used summicron. For me personally the sweetspot would be a new asp 'Lux, fast, almost compact and the quality wide open and stopped down should be beyond everything, but as i use a 35 asp lux as my "standard" not high enough on the priority list for the expense. I do have shot a couple of frames with a borrowed 1.0 noctilux, certainly an impressive lens, but would not be my first choice for a main-user 50, size and expense being the arguments against, even more for the 0.95. cheers Josef
thomasw_ Posted July 16, 2009 Share #5 Posted July 16, 2009 The Summilux ASPH 50/1,4 is the finest all-round lens I have used. In virtually any situation it excels, making it a nearly perfect 50. Why nearly? It isn't as compact as I'd like ideally; if it were just size-wise like a lux v2! If you get swing it, get a new Lux 50....it is a smashing lens. The ,7m close focus is very useful. Guest Austerby Posted July 16, 2009 Share #6 Posted July 16, 2009 I don't think there's a bad 50mm lens in M-mount on the market - apart from damaged older lenses all of them are very capable performers. I suggest you have a look on Flickr for examples from the different lenses then think about answering the following questions: a) What's your budget? How fast do you need it to be? c) Are you looking for the very best on the market, or the very best for your needs? d) What are you going to photograph? e) Does the size of the lens matter? Once answered then that should give you a short-list of contender lenses from which you might be able to have a look and feel for actual examples or do further research in these forums. To help you with a short list, the following may be included: Leica Noctilux f0.95 or f1 for s/hand Leica Summilux f1.4 Leica Summicron f2 Zeiss Planar f2 Zeiss Sonnar f1.5 Voigtlander Nokton f1.5 Voigtlander Nokton f1.1 There are others and a much wider range available of secondhand lenses. Enjoy your research
