It is not quite square, but also not rectangular enough. The eye - and brain behind - is puzzled, doesn't know where to put it. This tension might be helpful to underline a more dynamic subject, but imho disturbs the quiet mood of this picture. Would you mind showing the full frame? Or a version cropped to a real square? Upon reviewing the picture, I think the right horse fountain statue is not too important for the picture, since its jet of water is truncated already. When you decide to crop the picture to a square, I think the observer might find it easier to concentrate on the interesting couple in the background.
