911turbojk Posted July 12, 2009 Share #1 Posted July 12, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Guys I received my M8.2 this morning... just like everyone I can't wait to get my 8.2 ,, however when I got it and got it in my hand.. the quality .... um.... it just doesn't feel like a LEICA that I am used to hold.... (I have a M7) It is light (I guess obvious because it is a dc) but..... still.... it is a Leica and I expect it to be built like a Leica.... it is still a great camera but just not a M8 with same quality of an film M7.. Don't sure if it is just me or some of you guys have to the same feeling... Took it out for a day today, I must say that LCD ... really is not there for you to preview your pictures.... ( 5D MK II yes,, what you see is what you get) M8.2 ... no.... You will be scratching your head trying to fine tune your photo.. but then when you get home.. once its on the screen it is ALL GOOD~~ Then really need to improve that screen.....one of these days... Shootist Posted July 12, 2009 Share #3 Posted July 12, 2009 I shot some pictures the other day and had to wait a day and a half before I could check focus, framing & exposure. Oh that was film. I shot some images this morning and checked focus framing & exposure 5 seconds after I had taken them. That was with a M8. Build quality of the M8 & M8.2 are the same. I've owned several M3's, a M2, M4-2, M7 and a CL and I can't tell the difference in the build quality between them or the M8. The body on my M8 doesn't flex when I grip it. The rangefinder looks the same when I put my eye to the eyepiece (actually a lot better then a few of the M3's, 2, M4-2 and CL I've had). Not sure what the body of the MP & M7 are but the M3/2/4 were cast iron/steel. The M8 body is some type of light alloy (don't remember what) so it may feel lighter, that's OK with me. Also the film M's case was one piece. The M8 is 2 halfs.
hoppyman Posted July 12, 2009 Share #4 Posted July 12, 2009 A quick look on line tells me that my M8 is all of 19 grams lighter (or just about 3%) lighter than my M7.That would be something less than one ounce in the old imperial. Maybe you've been carrying too many heavy Canon dSLRs around in the meantime? On the LCD, the displayed preview approximates the default jpg settings. I bet you get used to shooting it just like an M but still having the feedback options when you need them. Shoot a thousand frames or so and let us know what you think of your fine new camera.
