Advertisement Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Hi martinb, Take a look here 35mm Summicron-M Type 1! Problems, repair and won't mount to M7... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wizard Posted December 8, 2006 Share #22 Posted December 8, 2006 I don't believe you will be able to use the latest (rectangular) version, as this has a tab or nose that will fit into a notch which only the 35asph. and its predecessor have. You can, however, use all sorts of round lens hoods Leitz/Leica made over the years, such as the 12504 or the IROOA type. Andy
thrid Posted December 12, 2006 Share #23 Posted December 12, 2006 Glad to hear you got it fixed. The type-1 has a similar cult following as the 2/50 Summicron-DR and they have become quite expensive in that past few years. If I remember correctly Nick Ut took the famous Vietnam era photograph of the girl running from a napalm strike, with one of these lenses and an M2. doubice Posted December 12, 2006 Share #24 Posted December 12, 2006 Martin, The first type 35mm 'cron can be used with the 12585 or 12504 hoods. Both have cut-outs so that you can look 'through' them when sighting through the finder. The 12585 hood is the correct one for the type 1 Summicron, the 12504 is a little shallower and was introduced with the lens' second generation. The IROOA was the original hood for the 50mm Summicron, but will also work with 35mm lenses. It is a conical shade, without the cut-outs of the later shades and will intrude into the finder. martinb Posted December 12, 2006 Author Share #25 Posted December 12, 2006 Thanks for all the help! The help and support I get from this forum is just amazing! I'll post a pic from this lens later tonight I don't know if I'll buy a lens hood for this lens because it's a really nice compact package without one and it doesn't block the viewfinder at all. JGW Posted April 23, 2008 Share #27 Posted April 23, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Here's one from a shoot last sunday. I think it was at f/4. Fuji Reala. Hello martinb, I hope you don't mind me reopening this thread after so long; I just found it when looking around. I hope you like your type 1 35mm Summicron. You might be interested to know that I use this lens on an M8. I once dropped my M2 with this lens on it and it landed on the lens! It had a yellow filter on the Summicron at the time and this cracked right across, but it did save the lens from damage, but the filter was jammed on to the thread. When I tried to get it off it turned the front element of the lens and made the red dot off centre as your was. It was easy to repair. I bought my lens off a fellow student when I was at photography college back in the late 80s. It cost me £100 back then! I don't know what they're worth now. I know mine was made in 1964. I've always used it professionally ever since, and never felt the need to 'upgrade' it. It renders a lovely 'old fashioned and classic' look to its images, which I find fascinating to combine with the M8; though personally, I feel that the complete ergonomics of the camera body in use far exceeds the importance of a lens. I know others might think differently. Anyway, I wish you continued enjoyment with it with many special captures! Please have a look at my site where I've used this lens extensively. Best wishes, JGW.
tobey bilek Posted April 23, 2008 Share #28 Posted April 23, 2008 I have many lenses and camera bodies and have two incompatability issues, a 21 on an M3 and one of the visos will not go on an M6 and lock. You have a mount on the camera and lens where the tolerence stack up makes them incompatable. Worst case they can replace the mount. The front cell need to be recemented in place. I don`t think this is a big deal.
