M7 DX reader

oooohhhh ... this is great news. My M7 has the same mechanical linkage and to be honest is a PIA to get film out of. I obviously lack the required touch and dexterity!

 

Does anyone know how reasonable the MP viewfinder and a full CLA might cost? I'll call Leica anyways but if anyone's done this recently through NJ it would be great to know.

 

I've only run 1 roll of film through the M7 and when I went to take it out, to look at the DX reader, luckily I was sitting at my desk and had a pair of long needle nose pliers sitting right there. Otherwise I might still be trying to extract the film canister. Just what was Leica thinking when they installed the original M7 DX reader. It's not hard enough to load and remove film from a M camera? Lets make it even harder.

 

I have heard/read the upgrade to the MP style is about $275 but that was in another thread about this (Link to that other thread posted in this thread) and it was several years ago, IIRC. So it may have gone up.

Leica NJ does not do the DX reader upgrade. They have to send the camera to Solms which is where mine is headed sometime soon, I hope. So in about, hopefully, 5 weeks I'll be able to tell you. Although I'm not having a CLA done, to my knowledge. At least I haven't requested it. But since they need to take the camera almost completely apart to change out the DX reader I would expect them to make sure the camera is clean, properly lubed and adjusted before they send it back to me.

Time will tell.
