Riccis Posted July 6, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 6, 2009 Hi. Anyone know where I can rent an M8 or 8.2 (as well as a lens or two) in NYC to use for this coming weekend? I highly recommend you give David Farkas (also a fellow member here) a call to test drive M8/M8.2 and lenses. You can get more info here (Leica Test Drive Program | Dale Photo & Digital) Cheers,

ricardo.diz Posted July 6, 2009 Share #5 Posted July 6, 2009 Hi all, Thanks for this tip. I have been tying to find some time to go to New York (I'm living in Boston), and do a test drive on the M8, so this is very helpful! Anyway, just wanted to add my two cents as well. I visited the Leica Gallery in NY, and there's a nice shop there (I can't recall the name of it though). I mentioned that I would be interested in taking the M8 for a test, and they seemed opened to it (although they didn't had a spare one at the time). From the small conversation I had, I was pleasantly surprised with the fact that they were really nice. Might be worth a look... Cheers, Ricardo
glenerrolrd Posted July 6, 2009 Share #6 Posted July 6, 2009 The camera store on the same floor as the Leica Gallery is Kurland Photo. Photovillage had an ad last year that you could rent and M8 from them for a reasonable amount. But I would check first ..they are not open on the weekend in the summer. David at Dale will ship it to you which could save you a lot of time. Its a good time to test an M8 as NYC in the summer is non stop.
wide.angle Posted July 6, 2009 Author Share #7 Posted July 6, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I actually do live in NY, but the rental would be used for an Ironman 70.3 event in Rhode Island.
carcam Posted July 7, 2009 Share #8 Posted July 7, 2009 I use an M8.2 for most of my photography but use only a DSLR for triathlons. So much action and it happens so quickly. I can't imagine trying to shoot a race like this with the M8- which lens, focus quickly, where to be, etc. But, I'm shooting a couple friends so I wasn't trying to capture the essence of the event (which you could do with the M8) but document their individual race. So instead of thoughtful, careful pictures, I resort to "spray and pray" on race day. Lots of crap but always a few good ones.
PBatemanJ Posted July 7, 2009 Share #9 Posted July 7, 2009 Buying from Amazon is good for test driving M8. Amazon offers 30 days return policy with no restock fee. You simply pay shipping cost when you return. This is excellent especially for camera stuff. You need to pay $6000 first, though. el fotografo Posted July 9, 2009 Share #10 Posted July 9, 2009 Lens and Repro in NYC rents M lenses and film cameras. I'm not sure if they rent an M8- you could give them a call and ask. Their website lists the lenses and prices. 21, 28, 35, 50,
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted July 9, 2009 Share #11 Posted July 9, 2009 >> BatmanJ This sounds like a close to indecent proposition to me. Would you like to be treated this way with your products if YOU were a dealer or manufacturer ? Renting or getting an official loaner from a LEICA-dealership (for free) seems to be much more appropriate in this case. Best

You should complain it to Amazon.com I simply wrote the fact that Amazon.com accept return within 30 days with any reason which includes "test drive". It is clear from their website. Amazon might be an official dealer of Leica, too.
