I have never really heard leica say there will not be a Digilux 4 - though I could have missed it. I bought a Digilux 3 as a gap camera waiting for the R10 or at the time a DMR II. After using the camera I have to admit i really like it. It could use a few upgrades and a lesson from the Digilux 2 ...some of them:

1. Better performance at higher iso

2. iso 3200 or 6400

3. 5 fps

4. quieter shutter

I like the camera's ability to AF lenses or R lenses : the kit lens is a winner and the R lenses include focus confirmation.

I for one would like to see a leica branded Digilux 4 ..thoughts

I’d love Leica to build a Digilux 4! Besides the kit zoom lens, Leica could present a new Four-Thirds-Summarit-Series (prime lenses, with autofocus).

As a R System user, I definitely would buy one. I guess this could be a entry level yet high quality system, competing with Panasonic, Olympus and non-fullframe Nikons/Canons. Unfortunately, due to the latest statements I dont’t see this happen. Photokina 2010 might be a good date to impress us renegades with someting unexpected.

Before Leica could offer a Digilux 4, Panasonic would have to build it, and at the moment, Panasonic seems to concentrate on Micro FourThirds. And even if Panasonic did, Leica would have to rethink their position on FourThirds, as their attitude has been less than enthusiastic for quite some time now. In other words: Don’t hold your breath.

Leica has created a huge gap in their offering ....... I think the new Olympus has image stabilzation buily into the body. and this camera would also take the kit Digilux 3 lens, r lenses, and a host of others....

I would buy a Digilux 4, but I will go Oly as Leica seems to prefer for some reason.

Oddly, though... the Digilux "line" still remains on the web site. I realize the R9 remains too... however, they clearly state that it's no longer in production. I've noticed this for several months. Why do they keep the Digilux 3 on the site. I don't think you can buy a new one, can you?

I am a D3 user and always dream of a D4. But I think Leica has abandoned the development of the 4/3 system camera-body already. Having said so, it seems that it is highly probable that it will make new prime micro-4/3 lenses but not the camera body, just like CZ. That will definitely bring in money!

Perhaps the Digilux 4 will be the "solution" for R users that Stefan Daniel spoke of. Full frame R-mount with EVF and made by Panasonic.

I think Panasonic is not going to develope full frame system. As you know, it puts so much efforts to develope the mirco 4/3 system, it is clear that its aim is to make a smaller camera, though it didn't have the gut to develope something like the OM E-P1 at the time G1 was designed. Since FF would only make the camera body bigger, this is obviously not what Panasonic is hoping for.
